Over the last two years we’ve brought you the Livescribe Pulse and Livescribe Echo smart pens, and now in 2011 comes news of Livescribe Connect. While the previous pens were pretty amazing in their capabilities (refresh your memory: they record exactly what you write and you can sync audio with this, and a few neat apps such as playing piano with it) but they were a bit incomplete in their ability to post this data online. If you stop for a bit and think about how Facebook or any other social network operates, you may realize (if you have your profile wide open) that it really is a invasion of your privacy, albeit self-imposed. Just think about the information you stick up there.

A couple of jokers have capitalized on this seemingly weird social behavior paradox and created a pretty funny video where they pretend to invite people to a real-world social network.

WRAP-A-NAP - head pillow, blindfold & earmuff IN ONEWe should really have a “No Batteries Needed” category of ‘gadgets’ because we love featuring stuff that aren’t electronics, but they’re kinda gadget-y (yes I made up that word) and are definitely cool and many times very practical.

Take this fleece travel pillow that also doubles as a blindfold and ear muffs. Called the Wrap-a-Nap (nice), you wrap it around your eyes and ears, velcro close it and lay your head down. Not sure how much noise it shuts out, but I’m sure it blocks out most of the light.

Hitachi-LG Pack SSD and Blu-Ray into One Bay

Hitachi-LG has managed to come up with an improvement to one of their hybrid drives. They now offer a solution for customers where space and performance are equally key by combining an SSD with a Blu-Ray optical drive.

The idea behind it is that the Blu-Ray and SSD hybrid can fit into one bay and share just one SATA connector. Their initial model needed 2 SATAs but Hitachi-LG has now integrated them into one. This allows premium laptop makers to boost their storage memory and still include a Blu-Ray drive.

The drive is available in sizes from 8GB up to 256GB, but no word on price currently. The typical setup is to have the operating system and other key files to be held on the SSD with a different HDD in another bay being used for any user files. The drive will be hitting the shelves in May this year.
