Review: Speech Privacy Systems’ White Noise Generator

We recently featured a Free White Noise Generator by Speech Privacy Systems on Gizmos for Geeks, and now we’ve had chance to review the premium version and let you know what we think – is it worth $15 a year?

If the only reason you’re upgrading is for the desktop application then don’t do it – all it does is opens a new window from your desktop with the website inside it. You could very easily make a desktop shortcut with your favourite browser so when clicked it launches the website. You also need to install Adobe AIR to run the desktop version. In case you’re not familiar with it, Adobe AIR is a very quick download and install.

The reason you should upgrade is for the advanced sound settings which include the ability to customise the individual components of the white noise and the equalizer. Within the main sound settings, you can then alter the L-R balance, volume and volume variation of the waterfall, wind, static, rainfall and beach noises.

The equaliser is good at letting you generate the exact sound you want – there are plenty of presets included but you can also fiddle around with all the different frequencies to create your perfect white noise setting.

Should you upgrade? If you’re going to just use this once in a while because of noisy builders outside, then no. However if you’re using it on a daily basis it definitely is worth it as you can adjust the settings to find your perfect sound, and it’s only $15 a year ($1.25 a month).
