Sometimes it’s easy to forget that sometimes we do get real mail – you know, those paper letters that end up in our mailboxes. If you want your mailbox to behave more like your email inbox though you don’t need to look much further. This wireless mail chime will let you know when you’ve got mail just like Mail or Outlook.

To set up the mail chime you stick a sensor on the inside of your mailbox door, and place the receiver in your house somewhere. When your mailbox door is opened, the box will beep and light up red, alerting you to the fact you have mail.

Pest control is a tough nut to crack sometimes, but an ultrasonic pest-repelling device might just do the job for you (I’ve had good results myself with one). This one in particular is a nightlight and repeller – when the device is plugged in it lights up with a blue glow, and emits an ultrasonic sound that will scare away any pests in your house.

The design of it makes it look just like an ordinary nightlight and no one visiting your house would be able to tell its actual function.

Are Sifteo Blocks ‘The Future of Play’?

Sifteo – the future of play. OK – so the slogan got me hooked, but I don’t think I’m too happy with this being the future of play/gaming.

Sifteo is essentially a set of 1.5″ (inch) cubes with color displays that you interact with to play a series of challenging games (for adults) or simpler puzzles for children. They’ve not hit the shelves yet (expected mid-2011) but when they do expect to see many more uses besides games.

And in the current trend of platforms with optional apps, you can add to your collection from the Sifteo App Store (let’s see if Apple sue them for infringement).

Google Video Chat on AndroidI just got a call, a video call that is, from one of my Google friends with an Android smartphone. The call came in over my Google Talk client built into Gmail, and at first I thought it was just a regular voice call, but when I clicked Answer, there was my friend walking along and talking.

He had of course called to rub in the fact that he (already) had an Android phone with video chat 😉 I totally took it for granted how clear the video actually was. Keep in mind that he was walking, and I could see the sky and trees behind him, yet the video was not jumpy and there were no dropouts. Color me impressed.
