PowerPlay Pro-Media Chair

PowerPlay Pro-Media Chair

The Geeks first came across and tested the PowerPlay Pro-Media Chair at CES back in January. This chair sports a 5.1 THX certified sound system in the chair including a tactile transducer to feel the bass. The Pro-Media Chair actually looks good to boot!

The chair definitely garnered a lot of attention around CES and would do the same in your game room. We’re definitely drooling over this chair.

Apple’s Wireless Mighty Mouse

Apple's Wireless Mighty Mouse

Apple has freed the Mighty Mouse from the constraints of wires by chopping off the tail. Now the Mighty Mouse can control the computer with the telepathic technology known as Bluetooth.

The Mighty Mouse has balls too! Well, an innovative Scroll Ball that gives the user 360 degrees of scrolling capability. In addition to the laser tracking engine and touch sensitive technology to detect right and left clicks, this is definitely a Mighty Mouse.

Maximo Concepts Mouse Pad Speakerphone w/Caller ID

Maximo Concepts Mouse Pad Speakerphone w/Caller ID

When the experts were talking about convergence over the past couple of years, I have a feeling they were not thinking about mating a mousepad with a speakerphone, alarm clock, calculator and called ID. I could be wrong though.

Anyway, this little gizmo should help you maximize your desk area. If you are truly a geek you probably use a softphone, a PIM, and know the quickest way to pull up a calculator on your computer and therefore do not need these physical devices… but if you’re a geeklet you could use this gizmo as a stepping stone to greater geekdom.

ICarta Stereo Dock for iPod with Bath Tissue Holder

ICarta Stereo Dock for iPod with Bath Tissue Holder

Leave it up to the Chief Gizmateer to find some toilet technology! While wandering around a few of my favrorite online tech stores I came across ICarta’s Stereo Dock for the iPod which is built into the bath tissue holder. This would replace your bath tissue holder in your toilet area.

Why would a company put out such a product? Well, personally I think it’s “BRILLIANT”! Why? Well, woman (and some lesser species of men) fear that someone might hear the noises that could escape while in the lavatory. Also, being able to bring your tunes into the water closet could help eleviate stress. Still others find the acoustics in the loo unmatched and want to sing along with their favorite song because everyone sounds better in the bathroom.

Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker

Play and Freeze Ice Cream Maker

This summer has just been hot. One way to cool down is with ice cream, but Geeks don’t like to use the old fashioned ice cream makers… we prefer something more interesting. We came across something called the “Ice Cream Ball”. Basically, you put the ingredients for ice cream (cream, sugar and vanilla at it’s simplest) in one side and rock salt and ice in the other end and start playing with the ball. Only human electricity is needed to produce homemade ice cream.

At first I thought this gizmo was part of the DIY atomic bomb in Manhattan Project!

New Nikon DSLR Camera In 20 Days

Leon Huang sent us a tip that Nikon is releasing their new Nikon DSLR Camera in about 20 days. We’ll be happy to test if Nikon sends one!

Check out Nikon Imaging Global website right now and you’ll be in for a little surprise. From the flash animation, it seems like Nikon has snuck up on us and will release a new DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera in 20 days from now.

For those who can’t be bothered to watch the animation, it reads as follow:

“More power… More control… More versatile… More excitement
Next Nikon
New 10.2 megapixel D-SLR addition to the lineup Integrating quality and affordability to meet the demands of passionate photo enthusiasts”

Affordability, sounds like an upgrade to the Nikon D70s! From the looks of the shutter release area, it is likely not an upgrade to the D200. So if you’re a fellow Nikon shooter who is looking to upgrade your D50/D70/D70s body, hold on to your money untill the curtains are drawn for this new baby.

China Planning to Steal Internet Leadership from US

China looks to leapfrog US’ domination in the Internet arena with the next-generation Internet. As part of China’s new five year strategy of converting from a manufacturing economy to one based on China’s scientific and technological breakthroughs, China plans on unveiling China’s Next Generation Internet (CNGI) at the 2008 Olympic Games.

CNGI is based on IPv6. Of course, the US Government has specified that all federal agency backbones should deploy IPv6 by 2008, but this Geek doesn’t buy it. I’ve heard about converting to IPng (IP Next Generation) since 1994 and I seem to remember talk that the Internet would transistion to IPv6 back in 2000.

Today, the CNGI connects 100 universities, 100 research facilities and 100 companies in 20 Chinese cities. The thought from China is the first to the market will win the strategic advantage and produce the next wave of eBays and Googles.

With the current restrictions placed on China’s access to the Internet, we’ll have to see how the strategy works out.

LukWerks Digital Video Surveillance Kit

LukWerks Digital Video Surveillance Kit

Besides having a cool name (LukWerks – sounds like a Star Wars R&D shop), the LukWerks Digital Video Surveillance Kit allows you to place cameras anywhere that you have power outlets. The camera’s power adapter also transmits images to the PC over existing powerlines with no networking needed! You can monitor up to 6 cameras realtime and view full color video on PC or over the Internet.

How cool is that?

One Segway User’s Reflections and Recollections after One Year

Steve with Segway Steven at TechLore wrote an article about his experience over the past year with a Segway i180.

Steven summarized answers to the six most popular questions he is typically asked. Apparently, the top speed of the Segway is 12MPH and it will drive a distance of 22 miles on one charge. Also, it only takes 30 seconds to learn how to ride it and the Segway does all the balancing for you.

While he doesn’t recommend getting one for yourself… it sounds like if you can afford one, it’s worth it for a geek! Afterall, whoever has the most toys wins right?

Wall Nuts

Wall Nuts

Yes, wall nuts are the Gizmo of the Day! Why? Well, the worst part of doing electrical work around the house is connecting wires together in a j-box. Well, that and getting shocked!

I hate using needlenose pliers to twist a couple of strong solid copper wires together and then use the old style wall nuts. What’s even worse is when you don’t have pliers and you twist the cable with your fingers. This will gnarl up your fingertips everytime.

Well, I ran across the coolest little gizmo that lets you secure the connection by inserting the wire into the housing! This is great for installing new ceiling fans, light fixtures, extending electical boxes and installing dimmers and other powerline home automation switches. Why didn’t I think of this?
