Netgear Network Storage Device – 500GB/1TB external hard drive

Netgear Network Storage Device

Wireless networks between computers and devices around the home, and office have become very popular recently, and this is a must-have addition to anyone’s network: the Netgear Network Storage Device. Featuring either 500GB or 1TB of hard disk space (depending on which one you go for), you have plenty of room to store high quality multimedia files and share them between everyone on the network. There’s also the option to extend the amount of storage available by adding another drive, which can also be used as a back up for the files on the original drive (RAID 1 for you power users out there).

These Netgears have built-in web interfaces to manage the files that are shared. It should also make it pretty easy for most folks to use. Furthermore, to ensure speed, you will find 256mb of RAM built in to the tower. The compatibility with other machines that you may have seems endless; media can be streamed to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 and even DVD players. Even printers can be connected.

Just One Club Card

Loyalty Cards

Another nifty innovation we just had to feature here at GfG is the ‘Just One Club Card’. This is a free website (a donation is asked for, but there is no mandatory payment) that allows you to type in the barcode of all your loyalty cards for your favorite stores and then print all these off all on one handy card-sized piece of paper.

Just think about how many cards you have in your wallet at the moment – these could all be reduced down into a series of 1 or 2 cards (each print-off can hold 8 barcodes) that will seriously de-clutter your wallet/purse.

Novelquest Emperor Workspace

NovelQuest Emporer Workspace

Perhaps the ultimate in workspace technology for gamers is the Novelquest Emperor Workspace. Turning you into some sort of mechanical dinosaur, this workspace provides excellent comfort levels and increases productivity of the user with its uber comfy leather chair and suspended tri-screen.

The screen resolution produced by this monster with 3 19-inch screens is worthy of even the most hardcore of gamers at 3840×1024. Sound is produced by a 5.1 surround sound speaker system by Bose and, just in case you’re bothered about this sort of thing, the air is purified by a full HEPA air purification system. Finally, just about every connection you could want is provided including memory card reader, iPod/iPhone dock, USB, eSATA, Firewire ports and more. But if that’s not enough that, naturally, every option is full customizable on ordering.

Rebit 160GB Automatic Backup Device

Rebit Automatic Backup Device

You may remember, back in January this year, we posted an article about BounceBack Ultimate device. Well, Rebit have now put this into practice with their automatic backup drive.

All you have to do is plug in the hard drive lookalike to your computer and set it up to continuously back up files and that’s exactly what it’ll do; all day, every day the Rebit Disk Drive Backup will be backing up your files just in case something goes wrong with your most important piece of hardware.

With the 160GB version costing only $59.99, it’s a bargain for something that will not only back up your core files, but also your application settings and operating system! Rebit have also thought of the problem that if you take your laptop somewhere and wish to unplug it, it will simply carry on from where it left off after you plug it back in. Integration with your operating system (Windows) means that when you hover over your file for the critical information it will tell you how many backups have been made and when they have been made.

This is one device that you really can’t afford to live without.

Palringo Mobile Messaging Service

parlingoPalringo is the ‘ultimate Instant Messaging client for mobile phones and computers’. Imagine an IM service that’s a mixture of all other IMs out there, with a touch of GPS, Facebook and audio added; that’s Palringo. What makes it successful is that it’s essentially lots of very basic services bundled together to make a very useful application.

Available for pretty much any phone under 2 years old (and on any Windows or Mac computers if you so wish), the application allows you to hold multiple conversations with people on the most popular IM services out there, included MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Talk, Jabber and many more. Palringo also allows for multimedia messaging such as being able to send voice messages to other users and, of course, the standard sending of photos and videos. People can be grouped and then one message sent out simultaneously to all of them – perfect for a party announcement!

The best parts? It’s free and available worldwide – all that’s needed is a data package and away you go.

Claymation Stop-Motion Studio

claymation-studioStop-motion videos are two-a-penny on YouTube at the moment and some of the biggest advertisers in the world are picking up on them. The Claymation stop-motion Studio 2.0 from Honestech will get your budding Steven Spielberg on his/her way to movie producing with this very simple to use piece of software. Think of the fun that could be had with LEGO and a digital camera.

This product aims to teach children about photography and movie production in a world that is becoming increasingly dependent on multimedia. With it being so simple to use, we might even see some more grown up kids (40+?) using this to create their stop-motion films with great ease. All that’s needed is a digital camera and this relatively cheap piece of software, and you can make excellent standard stop-motion videos with lots of effects, including the option to add a background of your choice to your images.

By the way, we reviewed the excellent VHS to DVD 3.0 package from Honestech a while back.

Bluetooth MP3 Sunglasses

Bluetooth MP3 Player

Last month we featured a pair of Bluetooth Sunglasses but this new device combines both a MP3 player and Bluetooth connectivity, and for around than half the price of the other pair for the top memory.

Built-in memory ranges from 128MB to 2GB, depending on how much music you want to listen to in your glasses, and battery life is 6 hours after a full charge. Like many in-car Handsfree kits, if you’re listening to the MP3 player and you get a call coming in then the MP3 will shut off and switch to your call. It plugs into your computer via USB and is compatible with the basic audio file formats; MP3/WAV/WMA. Price is a bit uncertain – but if you order in bulk you could get down to about $22 for the 2GB model.

Our thoughts? This product is quite a bit more bulky on the sides than the other pair we featured, and probably isn’t the same quality, but is a lot cheaper. It’s a toss up between MP3 and quality/style, but we recommend you go for the other pair.

USB Hot Lunch Bag

USB Hot Lunch Bag

Brilliant, handy, unique – all words to describe the USB Hot Lunch Bag! Perfect for keeping your lunch warm for your lunch breaks, this new lunch box plugs into your USB port and runs off your computer power to keep your lunch warm. When you think of ‘packed lunch’ you usually think, ‘cold, soggy mess’ but this need not be anymore – anything you could have at home with a cooker you can just about take on a trip with you.

With USB Thermo flasks already available on the market, it was only a matter of time before this came about. I guess the next step is thinking about the other uses for this; emergency organ transportation, or maybe even to warm your hands up on a cold winters day?

iceTech Solar-3000: Solar Charger for iPhone

iPhone Solar Charger

The iceTECH Solar-3000 is an iPhone charger than runs on solar energy. Okay, you may be thinking ‘Yeah, yeah; seen it before!’, which you most likely have, but this one actually does the job stylishly, which can’t be said for a lot of the others. Compatible with all iPhone models (and even iPods), you don’t have to worry about your handset running out of juice with this by your side; just leave it in the sun somewhere, whether that be on your dashboard in the car or even on the desk in the middle of a meeting.

The product, available in white, red or black, is an iPhone charger like no other – it is essentially a case with slots for business/credit cards (and things of similar size) with the charger plugged into the bottom. No point wasting money on a case and a solar charger when you can just have this, right?

XLink BT System – Replace your Landline with your Cell

XLink BT System

The XLink BT is a great innovation from XLink, designed to completely replace your telco landline with your cell. You can connect up to 3 cells to the XLink BT, and then, when a call comes to your cell, it is diverted to the BT system and forwarded to a house phone. This means that you don’t actually need a landline any more, allowing you to save on line rental – the company’s website states that this is $33 a year on average. This also works in reverse, by allowing you to make outgoing calls through the BT system via your cell.

Connected by Bluetooth, you are free to leave your cell wherever you want; you can have it plugged into a charger, or just the place where you get the best reception, and the BT system will be able to pick it up. Any cell phones with Bluetooth should work with this and any ordinary house phone can be connected to take the calls.

As well as the convenience aspect of the device allowing you to talk on more ergonomically designed handset, there’s also the safety aspect – talking on a cell phone generates a lot more harmful radioactivity than talking via a home phone!
