Digital File Transfer System

Digital File Transfer System

Forget having to bring your laptop along on trips to move photos, video or music from geek gizmos to a storage device. You can transfer files from one data storage device to another without going near a computer using Hitch the Digital File Transfer System. This speedy data transfer system connects any USB devices (devices and USB connector cords sold separately), such as digital cameras, USB flash drives, iPods, virtually any device with a USB connection, and it will even charge both devices as it transfers files.

Of course, I can’t live without my laptop, but this would be fun to play with.

Palm Treo 700p

Palm Treo 700p Back when the Treo 700 was first announced I was a bit worried that Palm might actually kill off the PalmOS in favor of Windows Mobile. Luckily, my fears were unwarranted, as they’ve launched a PalmOS version, the Treo 700p. Hopefully, they’ll ship the latest version of PalmOS soon that will take advantage of the 320×320 pixel, 65k color touch screen. The 700p has over twice the available built-in storage as the Treo 650, and has EV-DO data support. Great for road warriors. Other notable features: a 1.3 megapixel digital camera, Wireless Sync, a Digital Music Player and built-in Bluetooth® 1.2 wireless technology.

ICarta Stereo Dock for iPod with Bath Tissue Holder

ICarta Stereo Dock for iPod with Bath Tissue Holder

Leave it up to the Chief Gizmateer to find some toilet technology! While wandering around a few of my favrorite online tech stores I came across ICarta’s Stereo Dock for the iPod which is built into the bath tissue holder. This would replace your bath tissue holder in your toilet area.

Why would a company put out such a product? Well, personally I think it’s “BRILLIANT”! Why? Well, woman (and some lesser species of men) fear that someone might hear the noises that could escape while in the lavatory. Also, being able to bring your tunes into the water closet could help eleviate stress. Still others find the acoustics in the loo unmatched and want to sing along with their favorite song because everyone sounds better in the bathroom.

Pair of USB Power Adapters

Pair of USB Power Adapters

Yet another iPod accessory, but a pretty useful, inexpensive one. In fact, it’s not only for iPods, but for any USB device that needs charging either at home or in your car. These elegant, all white adapters power PDAs, cell phones, digital camcorders; if it can be charged via a USB conn, this is all you need. Best part is that you get both types in the package for $20.

Microsoft planning WiFi-enabled MP3 player and media store

It took them long enough, but Microsoft is about to enter the MP3 player fray and in a big way too. We recently featured a WiFi-enabled MP3 player and MS is taking a nice idea and putting it into their product. Another huge factor will be the inclusion of an iTunes-like media manager and that MS is also going to have their own iTunes-like store. According to an article at Engadget, Microsoft is going to do what it can do like no other: throw lots of money at the ‘problem’. The ‘problem’ in this case is attracting users (especially away from iPods/iTunes), and to do this, they’re going to let you re-download any songs you’ve already downloaded from iTunes. They’ll have to pay fees for this, of course. MS is planning to get the players ready in time for the magical electronics launch period that is Christmas.

Music Gremlin – WiFi MP3 Player

Music Gremlin - WiFi MP3 Player

Interesting that Apple didn’t come out with this first, but I’ll bet they’ll be along shortly. It’s an MP3 player with WiFi. Now, you can get rid of that cable tethering your music source to your computer. The Gremlin can download music anywhere it can jump onto a Wireless network. The Gremlin also lets you catalog and organize your tunes without the need for an external computer app. For $14.99/month, you can get an all-you-eat subscription a la Napster, or you go the iTunes route and buy songs for 99 cents each. The Gremlin has a 8GB drive (approximately 2000 128kpbs MP3s). Here’s the best part – Gremlins can connect to each other in short range, allowing you to connect with friends and other users nearby, even if there is no Wi-Fi access point available.

iSplash Wireless ZipConnect Splashproof Speaker System & 900MHz Transmitter

iSplash Wireless ZipConnect Splashproof Speaker System & 900MHz Transmitter

The iSplash speakers use a 900Mhz dual-frequency PLL transmitter from your iPod, MP3, stereo or TV up to 150 feet through walls and floors. The iSplash is great out near the pool or hanging in the shower. Water and tunes just go together!

iPillow: MP3 player speakers in a pillow

iPillow: MP3 player speakers in a pillow

Yet another accessory trying to cash in on the iPod/mp3 player craze, the iPillow is a simple enough idea: put some speakers in a pillow with a cable hookup for your iPod. So now you’ve got a boom box that you can lie on. Actually, the cylindrical design makes it a pretty good place to rest your neck. The iPillow is rated to work with iPods, iPod Shuffles, iPod Nanos, and Creative Zen. I imagine that as long as your mp3 player has a standard portable headphone jack, it’ll probably be compatible.

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers

Since the Geeks were so impressed during our review of the Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers, we decided to make it the Gizmo of the Day as well.

The speakers use NXT flat-panel speaker technology where waves are bent so smaller sized speakers can produce big sounds. The Logitech 28mm speakers definitely have present sound bigger than their packaged size. Imagine, a portable speaker system with actual bass.
