iceTech Solar-3000: Solar Charger for iPhone

iPhone Solar Charger

The iceTECH Solar-3000 is an iPhone charger than runs on solar energy. Okay, you may be thinking ‘Yeah, yeah; seen it before!’, which you most likely have, but this one actually does the job stylishly, which can’t be said for a lot of the others. Compatible with all iPhone models (and even iPods), you don’t have to worry about your handset running out of juice with this by your side; just leave it in the sun somewhere, whether that be on your dashboard in the car or even on the desk in the middle of a meeting.

The product, available in white, red or black, is an iPhone charger like no other – it is essentially a case with slots for business/credit cards (and things of similar size) with the charger plugged into the bottom. No point wasting money on a case and a solar charger when you can just have this, right?

XLink BT System – Replace your Landline with your Cell

XLink BT System

The XLink BT is a great innovation from XLink, designed to completely replace your telco landline with your cell. You can connect up to 3 cells to the XLink BT, and then, when a call comes to your cell, it is diverted to the BT system and forwarded to a house phone. This means that you don’t actually need a landline any more, allowing you to save on line rental – the company’s website states that this is $33 a year on average. This also works in reverse, by allowing you to make outgoing calls through the BT system via your cell.

Connected by Bluetooth, you are free to leave your cell wherever you want; you can have it plugged into a charger, or just the place where you get the best reception, and the BT system will be able to pick it up. Any cell phones with Bluetooth should work with this and any ordinary house phone can be connected to take the calls.

As well as the convenience aspect of the device allowing you to talk on more ergonomically designed handset, there’s also the safety aspect – talking on a cell phone generates a lot more harmful radioactivity than talking via a home phone!

Google Mobile – Sync

Perhaps a bit like MobileMe is Sync from Google Mobile. This new application for your phone allows you to synchronise your contacts and calendar entries with your Google account. Operating via a ‘cloud’ this interaction takes place wirelessly, also adding sounds and vibration from your calendar alerts to your phone.

Sync synchronises your data with dual interaction, i.e. any changes made to your phone are applied to your Google account and vice versa. Whilst MobileMe is currently only available for Apple products, Sync can be used on a variety of phones wide enough to cover all the major types of up-to-date handsets, including iPhones, Blackberrys, Windows Mobile and Symbian devices.

This video provides a pretty good overview of its uses in just over a minute:

Helio Hero

If you are a Myspace addict then the Helio Hero is the phone for you. This phone has been developed to be multimedia heavy and includes many things that the younger generation looks for in a phone. The phone includes an audio and video player, IM and email-applications, games, and a 2 megapixel camera. The Helio Hero also has a link to the mobile version of Myspace. The phone measures 4.3 inches high by 1.9 inches wide by 1 inch thick, making the Hero a thick phone. The dominant feature of this phone is the 2.2 inch color display. …

BlackBerry Bold: Accessories

Cell phones are something that is becoming very popular. Just about every teenager has one and now even the older generations are starting to carry more cell phones. Most cell phone companies make their cell phones to make the majority of their customers happy. Although there are some people who like to customize their cell phones so that they are not like everyone else. Customizing your cell phone can be done in many ways. One of these ways is by buying accessories, like faceplates, to go on their cell phones. One company that sells cell phone accessories is Wireless Emporium.

Sunglasses with built-in wireless Bluetooth headset

Okay, so we’ve all heard of those glasses made by Oakley that have a built-n MP3 player, but sunglasses with built-n wireless Handsfree over Bluetooth – is this just taking it one step too far? I don’t think so.

With a talk time of 3.5 hours and a standby time of 90 hours (rechargeable via internal battery) there’s just nothing comparable on the market – and all for under $50. The glasses themselves are quite stylish; probably as good as any other $50 pair of normal sunglasses you can get – they have a matt black finish with smoke mirrored lenses.

With a temperature range of -10C to 50C, you can use these pretty much anywhere in the world. Perhaps these will be next year’s skiing must have, that is if you think you can manage calling people whilst you’re coming down the slope at break-neck speed!

In conclusion, a good buy, as long as you don’t mind walking around looking like someone out of the Matrix. And, in all fairness, they’re not quite as good looking as your pair of D&G designer glasses. Another gadget that combines 2 of our daily necessities into one simple, stylish product. Nice.

HTC’s 2nd handset running Android – the Magic

HTC announced a new handset, named Magic, that will run Google’s Android mobile OS, like the G1. Sorry Yanks, but the Magic will be sold by Vodafone in Spain, Germany, France and the UK, and in some other countries by other carriers.

Some quick stats – 3.2-inch touchscreen, GPS, Wi-Fi, HSPDA 3G connectivity, and a 3.2-megapixel camera, video recording capabilities for the camera and a soft, on-screen QWERTY keyboard.

I dub thee iPencil… DIY iPhone Stand

Fatgadget from Geeky Gadgets had a problem, and as all good Geeks do… he solved it.

While working on his PC, he wanted to watch some video but just could not get his iPhone properly propped. Looking around his desk in MacGyver mode, he found 5 pencils and some elastic bands which were crafted into a simple but effective iPhone prop-per we think is brilliant so we dubbed the “iPencil”.

Check out the Geeky Gadgets quick but simple how to.

Obama Still Fighting for Blackberry

Only last week Obama expressed his desire to hang on to his Blackberry:

“I’m still clinging to my BlackBerry. They’re going to pry it out of my hands,” Obama said in a broadcast last week televised by CNBC. “You are interacting with people who are outside of the White House in a meaningful way.”

The concern with Obama continuing to use a Blackberry centers around the fear of the device being hacked. McAfee has detected only a few attacks against the RIM device which is credited to the unique network controlled by RIM. While US engineers might be able to build a Blackberry that uses higher levels of encryption than RIM and the wireless carriers, without this special version Obama’s message cannot have confidence of privacy.

“If Obama uses a vanilla BlackBerry, he should use it with the assumption that the world will read it,” said Entner, the analyst. “His counterparts in the capitals of several countries will read it.”

Research In Motion (RIM), the manufacturer of the Blackberry, has enjoyed an increase in sales thanks to Obama’s free publicity.
