Outdoor Dual Beam w/Piezo Sounder

Outdoor Dual Beam w/Piezo Sounder

I know this is meant to be an outdoor motion sensor but I can see so many different applications for this product. First of all, you could use it for its intended purpose such as putting on the inside of a gate or fence to sound an alarm when someone breaches your space. You could also place out near your plants that deer tend to eat to scare the deer away. If you leave your garage door open, you can keep various critters from coming inside your garage.

Some other useful applications include practicing your cat burgular skills by setting up a couple in your family room and performing various gymnastics moves to circumvent the IR beams.

When it comes to work you could always use these as a security alarm for when you’re surfing at work and don’t want someone to sneak into your office or cube. Better yet, you could place this inside a stall in the bathroom… imagine the hilarity when someone who really has to go opens the door and gets blasted by a 70dB piezo sounder!

Black Garden Lights/Speakers Set

Black Garden Lights/Speakers Set

What a novel idea… hiding speakers in outdoor lighting! Long gone are the days where you have to place a fake boulder in your backyard to get music but speakers are hidden in the outdoor lights. Music is transmitted wirelessly to the the amplified receiver which doubles as the low-voltage transformer and then transmitted with via wire to the various speaker lights.

I can’t help thinking how great this would be on Halloween night…

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers

Since the Geeks were so impressed during our review of the Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers, we decided to make it the Gizmo of the Day as well.

The speakers use NXT flat-panel speaker technology where waves are bent so smaller sized speakers can produce big sounds. The Logitech 28mm speakers definitely have present sound bigger than their packaged size. Imagine, a portable speaker system with actual bass.

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers featuring NXT Technology

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers featuring NXT Technology

The Geeks received Logitech’s first product to employ NXT’s flat-panel speaker technology, simply called the Logitech 28mm Portable Speaker. NXT provides unique sound solutions and they are best known for their flat-paneled speaker technology which exploits their expertise in bending wave physics. We have tested several portable speakers before with lackluster results… read on to see if NXT flat-panel speaker technology can make portable sound rich and full.

Review: SENA Blackberry 8700 Leather Case

The Geeks received a SENA Blackberry 8700 Leather Case to review and since I’m a Treo guy and don’t have a Crackberry, I asked one of the executives at my company to give the SENA case a full test. Using the SENA case with his Blackberry for a few weeks, he performed real world tests that any executive would encounter including carrying the Blackberry everywhere and even dropping it a couple times! Read on to see what he thought of the case.

UV Hawk

UV Hawk

If you’re a pasty white geek afraid of facing the sun without SPF 1001 sunscreen, the Geeks have found a gizmo for you (and me!)… the UV Hawk. The device has four skin tone options that help eliminate sunburns dependant on your skin type. The portable device shows accurate UV index and the safe amount of time to spend in the sun. Even on overcast days I bet I should not stay outdoors for more than 1 minute!

Wireless BBQ Temperature Probe

Wireless BBQ Temperature Probe

Most do not possess my Jedi Grilling powers of knowing exactly when to pull the steaks to assure they are perfectly cooked to specifications (nothing like a top sirloin with a nice pink center). In cases where you’ve overcooked or underdone meat on the grill, today’s gizmo is for you!

The final gizmo in the Memorial Day Weekend series on grilling is a must have for grilling newbs and grillmasters alike. Nothing is worse than the anticipation of a cookout, firing up the grill and grilling only to overcook the steaks (or uncook the chicken!).
