Did LOST Answer Your Questions?

LOST logoFor a prime-time TV show that wasn’t on Sci-Fi (SyFy), LOST was pretty geeky and brainy. It also had lots (and I do mean a ton) of unanswered questions leading into the finale. So much so that there were easily a few dozen articles with lists of questions that begged for answers. Some were answered last night, but probably not enough.

So what do you think? Was the finale satisfying?

Win an ESET NOD32 AntiVirus 4 license

ESET NOD32Anti-virus is a must have piece of software if you own a computer, and ESET’s NOD32 is one of the top choices for home users. It’s not a free application, but if you act now, you have a chance to win one of 10 licenses that our friends at Tech Paul are giving away this week.

Even if you don’t enter the contest, Tech Paul is worth a visit (or two!).

PS> Don’t mess around if you don’t have an AV program already – get one. Now! There are free ones as well that get the basic job done – we like AVG.

New Media Companies Turning Traditional Media Outlets Upside Down

Two news items caught my eye Friday in gadget news.

First, Apple iTunes increased its dominance as the top domestic music e-tailer. iTunes overtook Walmart in 2008 when it reached 21.42% and now iTunes has captured 26.65% of the overall market. Walmart had 14.99% in 2008 and dropped to 12.54% and retains the second spot. The download music segment represents a quarter of all domestic music sales.

iTunes did not exist just 7 years ago. Originally launched only on the Apple platform in April of 2003, the Windows version did not appear until October. Not remembering when I started to make the switch to digital downloads from CD media, I pulled up my account history. My first purchase took place November 1, 2003 when I purchased Harder to Breathe by Maroon 5 and It’s My Life by No Doubt.

Spiderman Washes Windows – for a price

You can now hire Spiderman to wash your windows!

Spider Style has a dedicated team of superheros ready at a moments notice to inspect, fix and clean skyscapers wearing Spiderman outfits. Unfortunately this specialty cleaning service has setup shop only in France, Qatar and now the UAE.

“We believe in finding the passion and fun in everything we do. If we can have Spiderman clean our exterior, then why not? It puts a smile on people’s faces,” commented Mövenpick General Manager, Peter O’Connor. Two thumbs up for making window washing unique and interesting!

By the way, the upside-down kiss from Spiderman is an upcharge…

HTML5 Video Adoption

As of May 2010, 26% of all web video is now available for playback in HTML5 using the H.264 format up from 10% on January 2010. This is a meteoric rise to adoption for a technology. Out of the sites that support HTML5, iPad users are detected and switched to an HTML5-compatible format. YouTube has even enabled that functionality on their embeds from other sites.

Apple iPad has forced rapid adoption of HTML5 video.

For most news type sites, only recent stories are available as most back library content has not been encoded to be used in HTML5. Another area lacking is that there is little HTML5 supported episodic content available from major TV networks. ABC has an app, but no full episodes are available from their website.

Chopper 2 for iPad uses iPhone as Controller

Chopper for the iPhone reached the #1 paid game on the US charts and sold over a million downloads and now Majic Jungle Software is working on a sequel aptly named Chopper 2. With an all new 3D game engine, new enemies, weapons, graphics and missions, the sequel demos look great.

The initial release date was prior to the holiday season of 2009 but has shifted to Jun 2010 (one month away!).

Check out this video after the jump showing iPad game play from a couple of levels, as well as turning an iPhone into a controller via Bluetooth!
