Black Garden Lights/Speakers Set

Black Garden Lights/Speakers Set

What a novel idea… hiding speakers in outdoor lighting! Long gone are the days where you have to place a fake boulder in your backyard to get music but speakers are hidden in the outdoor lights. Music is transmitted wirelessly to the the amplified receiver which doubles as the low-voltage transformer and then transmitted with via wire to the various speaker lights.

I can’t help thinking how great this would be on Halloween night…

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers

Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers

Since the Geeks were so impressed during our review of the Logitech 28mm Portable Speakers, we decided to make it the Gizmo of the Day as well.

The speakers use NXT flat-panel speaker technology where waves are bent so smaller sized speakers can produce big sounds. The Logitech 28mm speakers definitely have present sound bigger than their packaged size. Imagine, a portable speaker system with actual bass.

Review: FM Transmitters: Roadmaster VRFM8/VRFM9, Kensington Pico

Review: FM Transmitters: Roadmaster VRFM8/VRFM9, Kensington Pico

We started out reviewing the VRFM8 from Roadmaster, which is an FM transmitter for wirelessly broadcasting music from your iPod, USB stick or other music source over your car’s stereo, but then also got the VRFM9. At about the same time, Kensington was good enough to send us a Pico FM transmitter, so this review turned into a bit of a comparitive review. Other vendors that produce FM transmitters declined to send us review samples (although we did review a Belkin TuneBase late last year). Since the Kensington Pico is built for an iPod Nano, that’s what we used for the majority of the review. The VRFM8 and VFRM9 also take USB thumbdrives which plug directly into the units, so we tested those as well.

I don’t know if I want to eat or watch this LCD TV by Hannspree. Hannspree makes theme-based “360 degree” designs including this yummy looking Apple TV. Some other available designs include a baseball, soccer ball and a cinderella coach all housing 10 inch LCD TVs.

Hannspree earned the distinction of being an entry in Time Magazine’s “Tech Buyer’s Guide 2005 – Gadget Mania” which features some of the year’s most innovative products.

Bose SoundDock System for iPod – Black

Bose SoundDock System for iPod - Black

Black must be the new Black… especially when it comes to Apple products and Apple accessories! We featured the absolutely gorgeous Black Macbook 13″ last week, and today’s Gizmo of the Day is the Bose SoundDock System for iPod… in Black.

If you’re an audiophile looking to use your digital music stored in your iPod for a sound system, these speakers preserve the fullness and richness of your music. Of course, the SoundDock comes at a price.

LIVEdigitally Review: Kensington SX-2000 Speakers for iPod

LIVEdigitally Review: Kensington SX-2000 Speakers for iPod

A “6′ 3″ guy who weighs no more than a buck-65 (wet out of the shower)” wrote a review on Kensington’s SX-2000 Speakers for iPod featuring NXT Technology over at LIVEdigitally. NXT Technology is known for their flat panel loudspeaker technology and the NXT technology is used by a plethora of vendors including Kensington, Logitech, Hitachi, Philips, Pioneer, Sonos, NEC and Toyota. Here’s an excerpt from their review:

Now slim size is a nice plus and all, but for me the main question was: “How does it sound?? The answer is “amazing.? The sound is rich both at high and low volumes and nice and steady throughout. It’s not a Cambridge Soundworks system, but for the price and size, it does everything we want. We’ve even started to crank up the tunes while we are in the other rooms and the sound carries well and with no notable distortion. Part of what impresses me about the Kensington unit is the NXT technology (used in the device).

Currently, the Geeks are testing out an offering by Logitech (look for the review later this week), and we’ll agree with Ron on the sound quality. Check out the entire review on LIVEdigitally’s site.

Panasonic RR-US395S IC Recorder with Voice Editing Software

Panasonic RR-US395S IC Recorder with Voice Editing Software

This extremely small voice recorder can hold over 66 hours of speech in monoaural mode. That may not be that impressive given how cheap storage has become, but hopefully this will impress you a little: the RR-US395S comes with voice editing software that converts from speech to text *and* can translate into 5 different languages: French, Spanish, German, Italian and Russian. I think Japanese and Chinese are missing, but maybe that’ll be in the next revision. Still not enough? The software also has a feature to pronounce the speech as well in those other languages. I’m actually a bit surprised that it’s priced under $80.

Solio Solar Charger (Charges iPods, Cell Phones, etc.)

Solio Solar Charger (Charges iPods, Cell Phones, etc.)

Are you a gadget freak that is concerned about the environment? Well, get a Solio Solar charger and do your little but significant part. The Solio can charge pretty much any mobile device: iPods, cell phones, digital cameras, PDAs, etc. using an interchangeable tip system. It has an internal battery that stores energy for months at a time, and is also rechargeable via conventional wall power if there’s no sunshine. Lightweight and ergonomic, the Solio folds up neatly and fits easily in your pocket. The vendor has also done its part to help the environment by planting trees to zero out the Carbon release in the manufacture of their product.

Sony® Portable Reader System PRS-500

Sony® Portable Reader System PRS-500

I saw one of these Sony e-Ink palm-sized readers up close at the CES show earlier this year and I was duly impressed. Electronic books are here. E-Ink has made it possible by providing a display that compares to traditional printed text. Couple this with a software-based device that is thinner than many paperbacks and light (under 9oz), and you have a winner. Wouldn’t it be great to board an airplane with over 100 books to choose from? The reader has 128MB of built-in storage and accepts Memory Stick storage media and SD Cards to dramatically increase its capacity.
