I saw one of these Sony e-Ink palm-sized readers up close at the CES show earlier this year and I was duly impressed. Electronic books are here. E-Ink has made it possible by providing a display that compares to traditional printed text. Couple this with a software-based device that is thinner than many paperbacks and light (under 9oz), and you have a winner. Wouldn’t it be great to board an airplane with over 100 books to choose from? The reader has 128MB of built-in storage and accepts Memory Stick storage media and SD Cards to dramatically increase its capacity.
The battery life is rated at over 7500 page turns (interesting yet appropriate way to cite battery life); this translates into over 30 books at an average size of 250 pages. So what about content? Well, you can purchase and download thousands of eBook titles from the Connect eBookstore, but thankfully, the reader isn’t limited to just that kind of content: imagine sync’ing up PDF files and blogs and web articles for reading at a later time.
