Sony Ericsson MH907 earbuds – motion sensing

Sony just rolled out the world’s first ‘motion sensing’ earbuds. Well, that’s how they’re pitching it, but technically, it doesn’t sense motion. It senses body contact (electrical capacitance trick), similar to how some touchscreens work.

Anyway, the MH907 earbuds has 2 main functions – plug both buds into your ears and your music starts; remove one and it pauses. Got an Ericsson phone equipped with Fast Port? Then when you get a call, you can plug in a a bud and automatically answer the phone. Hang up by removing the bud. I could see that leading to some unwanted hang-ups, but still cool.

Kodak Theatre HD Media Player

Kodak is the latest vendor to enter the media player market. They’ve named their product simply Theatre HD Player, although their website implies there may be more models to come.

The Theatre HD Player (we’ll shorten it to THP) connects to your HDTV (via HDMI if you’d like) and to your network either via Ethernet cable or 802.11b/g/n WiFi.

It can suck in audio and video from PCs on your network, Internet Radio, can play back iTunes & M3U playlists, as well as content from USB sticks that you can plug directly into the unit. It also has a mulit-card reader that supports SD, MMC, CF, MS, xD, and SDHC.

The THP comes with a remote and EASYSHARE software. At just $200, Kodak has a seemingly solid entry to the market.

Let’s say you decide to come downstairs and had music playing in your bedroom, you can use your controller to turn that off and play it in the kitchen instead. You can browse through albums and stations, perform searches with the on-screen keyboard or build playlists.

Panasonic plans to be 1st to market 3D HD TV for consumers

In perhaps their biggest play at the IFA conference in Berlin, Germany, Panasonic showed off their 3D TV for the home market. Their system is a traditional stereoscopic system that needs glasses and works in conjunction with their Blu-ray DVD player that has 3D content. Panasonic aims to hit the market with multiple TV sizes in 2010.

5th Generation iPod nano features video recording

One of the new products announced at Apple’s event yesterday was the new iPod nano, now with a video camera and pausable FM radio. The new iPod nanos now have a polished anodized aluminum finish and comes in 9 different colors. But the most notable feature has to be the video camera that is paired with the larger 2.2″ screen (240-by-376-pixel resolution). Sync up the nano to your computer and it’s just one more step to sharing your video on YouTube, Facebook, et al.

The FM Tuner not only lets you listen to live FM radio, but to pause it for up to 15 minutes. You can rewind as well. Also included is the ability to tag songs that you like, so that you can look them up later on in iTunes.

The VoiceOver feature speaks the artist and song title to you, and the Genius feature in iTunes can help you put together cohesive playlists.

The new iPod nano comes in 8GB and 16GB sizes.

VHS2DVD Wizard is another competitor in the VHS to DVD conversion market. It presents a simple and tidy way to transfer your VHS video tapes to DVDs. Sure it might not have the same features as some of the other competitors (round up) but it does it cheaper and perhaps with less hassle.

Plug in the 2 video cables to connect your PC via USB to your VHS player, install the software and simply hit play on your VCR. The software will capture it as it is playing and allow you to edit unwanted sections out at the end (such as ads) before finally burning it to DVD, or simply saving it on your computer for future viewings. The price ($50) is very similar to that of Honestech’s VHS to DVD Deluxe (which we’ve tested and reviewed in depth), but keep in mind that the Honestech product doesn’t care whether its VCR or any other analog source (audio and/or video) as long as it has RCA output jacks.

Sennheiser have broken into the ultra premium headphone market by offering their Sennheiser MX W1 Earphones, which are completely wireless and compatible with any device with a 3.5mm jack. The included transmitter plugs into the jack to transmit your music (or book, as Amazon say these get bought alot with Kindles) into your headphones wirelessly. The earphones consist of a unique ‘twist’ system to make sure they stay in your ears whilst on the go – you wouldn’t want to lose a pair of $400 headphones, would you?

The earphones are rechargeable, presumably by some sort of dock, and the innovative carry-case they come with allows you to have up to 3 full charges whilst you’re on the go, so you need never be without your music.
