7 Things You Can Do on a Windows Phone 7 That You Can’t Do on an iPhone

Windows 7 vs iPhoneWith the recent launch of the new Windows 7 smartphones, this article courtesy of Retrevo.com comparing the iPhone to a Win7 phone is timely.

By Sarah Martin of Retrevo.com

With this week’s North American debut of the Windows Phone 7 we decided to dive into the Microsoft vs Apple fray and see how Windows Phone 7 is going to stack up with iOS 4. (Full disclosure: Retrevo was selected by Microsoft to be a BizSpark One partner.) Since its 2007 release the iPhone has dominated the smartphone market recently its supremacy has been challenged by the Android OS, and now Microsoft is going to do its best to snatch some of that market-share as well. To have any hope of doing so however, Microsoft has to be able to offer something new or innovative to consumers. In that vein, here are a few things WP7 does that the iPhone does not. …

Human Touch’s AcuTouch 9500 Massage Chair can be controlled with your iPhone

AcuTouch 9500 Massage ChairOne of our first gizmos we ever featured was the iJoy Robotic Massage Chair. Fast-forward a few years later and Human Touch and massage chairs have not stood still. In fact, take the AcuTouch 9500 Massage Chair, which interfaces with your iPhone or iPod Touch via Bluetooth.

Download the HT-Connect app and control the AcuTouch’s settings and programs from the palm of your hand.

But put aside the iPhone app for a second and consider how decked out this chair really is. It aims to simulate the hands and techniques of expert therapists and even includes dual-lumbar back heat, foot and calf massagers, and uses sensors to map the pressure points along your back.

You can choose from 8 15-min programs depending on how you’re feeling. It can remember your favorite positions, and you can adjust the intensity of the massage, and of course you can program in your very own customized massage routines.

New Reports say iPhone heading to Verizon

iPhone on VerizonDo you remember that nursery rhyme “Polly put the kettle on, Sukey took it off again”? The Verizon/iPhone saga reminds me of that. Well it’s back on again. This time there are multiple sources saying the iPhone is coming to Verizon in early 2011.

If you’re an AT&T iPhone user who is planning to jump over, keep at least 2 things in mind:

  • You won’t be able to use data and speak on the phone (voice) simultaneously. At least, not yet. The CDMA standard that both Verizon and Sprint use does not have that capability yet, although it’s being worked on. Of course, the carriers will need time to implement it.
  • The 1st round of Verizon iPhones will in all likelihood be 3G only and not be ready for the faster 4G network that Verizon is rolling out next year.

No Firefox for iPhone, but Firefox Home is the next best thing

Firefox HomeLove Firefox, but also love your iPhone. Wish there was a Firefox for the iPhone. Well sadly, according to Mozilla that doesn’t appear very likely.

However, there’s another app called Firefox Home that lets you get your Firefox history, bookmarks  and even open tabs on your iPhone. Firefox Home takes advantage of another Firefox tool called Sync that you can use to keep all of your various Firefox sessions nicely in touch with each other.

iPhone Spy Stick recovers your data

iPhone Spy StickLabeled a ‘spy stick’, it’s easy to forget that you can use this little gadget for positive reasons like recovering your lost data off of your iPhone. The iPhone Spy Stick is a USB forensic tool that works simply by connecting it to your iPhone.

It can download deleted text messages, call history, view web history and even download pictures and voice memos and even map history.

The version for iOS 4 will be released next month (Oct).

iPhone Real Money Poker

real-money-on-iphone

The iPhone has been one of Apple’s biggest successes but it’s not exactly the apple of online poker players’ eyes. The iPhone does many things amazingly well, but online poker games aren’t one of them, as Apple’s decision to not support Flash and its stringent approval process for any iPhone app have left online poker fans out in the cold.

Amplitube iRig

Review: AmpliTube iRig for iPhone/iPad – Guitar Amp & Effects Rig

Amplitube iRig

As an amateur guitarist, I’m always trying to emulate my favorite guitar players, and of course, their sound. But without their rack of effects, getting even close to their sound is tough. And once upon a time, effects were very expensive, but as home computers have become more commonplace, effects have found their way (at least partially) into software.

Within the last few years, the iPhone has become one of the hottest gadgets to own. Enter IK Multimedia who have decided to marry the iPhone to a guitar effects rig in the form of the AmpliTube iRig. I got a chance to review this gadget and its associated iPhone app.
