Review: Spy Tec Inventio-HD 720P Video Sunglasses

Inventio-HD 720P Video SunglassesNew York City-based spy shop, Spy Tec, decided to enter the field of ‘spy glasses’ and build their own, the Inventio-HD video sunglasses. Here’s our detailed review.

Overview

The Inventio-HD glasses appear to be mid-ranged plastic-framed sunglasses in the style that you might see a mountain biker or perhaps a golfer or skier wearing, but not quite as stylish. But style is not the primary function of this gadget. You’ll notice the arms and frames are distinctly thicker than most sunglasses you’ll find today, but the electronics has to hide somewhere. On the bright side, they are not as ridiculously thick as the original MP3 sunglasses that Oakley put out years ago.

On the underside of one of the arms is a micro USB port and on the side of that same arm is a multi-function button that turns it on and off and stops and starts video recording. There’s no button on the other side, but given the symmetry, there could easily be one in the future, and I’m all for splitting up functions especially when a single button requires more complex sequences.

Review: r.pod Portable Solar Battery Pack and USB Charger with High Flux LED Flashlight

r-pod-solar-chargerHere’s another entrant to the portable backup battery market, this one from Korean company Misemet. There are a couple of quirks to this one that makes it stand out: it comes with a solar panel to charge the battery pod, and the pod itself contains an LED flashlight. Yup, the flashlight part is definitely quirky.

Both pod and panel come in one of three colors, green, red or yellow, and the panel is wrapped in a soft silicon case for protection and texture. There is also a similar cap for the lightbulb portion of the pod that protects the glass and also creates a mood light effect.

It looks like 2012 could be the year the 3D printer breaks out. As prices creep down towards $1,000 per unit, 3D printers are now within the reach of small design companies, and it may not be long before they’re in all our homes too. But is it time to buy? Here are three things to consider before becoming an early adopter of 3D printing technology.

USB Stick Analyzes Air Quality, Detects VOCs, Protects Your Health

Most breathing conditions are made worse by poor air quality, but if you’re inside you can simply improve the air quality by opening a window. Knowing when the air quality is bad is an issue – today’s gizmo is a very simple-to-use air quality tester.

All you do is you plug the USB stick into your computer in the same way you would a Wi-Fi receiver and it will detect any VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) in the air.

Augmented Reality Contact Lens

Augmented Vision in a Contact Lens

Technology seems to be making advances in the blink of an eye, but who would have thought that the blink of an eye could someday power the latest technology? Apparently, researchers at the University of Washington did. They are currently creating prototypes of “augmented reality contact lenses.” In the next decade or so, these lenses could take the seemingly endless stream of data out there and display it magically right before our eyes, without need for a cell phone, tablet or PC.

The Terminator!Similar to Arnold Schwartzenegger’s character in the series of Terminator movies, the data we need would be displayed onto our visual field in a transparent way, without obstructing our view of the world around us. There are a number of interesting applications for this technology, spanning everything from the practical to our endless desire to be entertained.

iTwin Gives you an Affordable Cloud

The iTwin USB Remote File Access USB sticks lets you share one computer’s data with another computer anywhere in the world, as long as both computers are connected to the Internet.

Plug the primary iTwin device into your main computer, and then carry the secondary device around with you. When you need to access your files, just plug the secondary iTwin device into your computer like a memory stick and it will access your files on your main computer. The only requirement is that the computers both need to be connected to the internet.
