nokia_e61i.jpg

I recently got hold of a Nokia e61i to complement the Blackberry 8820 that I won in a prize draw. I’ve been looking around for a remote email and phone solution for our field based staff for some time. There are a huge number of thumb based, email friendly devices out there which I wrote about in my Thumb Phones Blog post recently and these two devices were definitely high on my gadgety wish list. Whilst the shiny Blackberry is still sitting in its box in my kitchen (not for long hopefully) I have been out and about with the Nokia and giving it a good run its money. I have made a few observations and found out some useful tips whilst Trialling the Nokia E61i. The device works a treat and its Series 60 Symbian OS is about as good as you can get but I’m still having a few glitches with Exchange Server 2007 integration when using the MfE add-in as it seems to demand an SSL certificate which isn’t as straightforward as it should be, as I discovered when writing about The Perils of Support Desks: GoDaddy. For now I am focusing on the Nokia e61i in a mobile environment so watch this space for more!

iPhone Supported in Slick iPort In-Wall Music System

iPort in-wall design with iPhone iPort In-wall Music System has updated their in-wall design to support Apple’s iPhone. The iPort is the first in-wall music system for your iPod connecting to any stereo or entertainment center. You can control the iPod from across the room using integrated IR and two-way control easily allowing you to share your music, videos and photos without having to crowd around a tiny iPod screen.

The iPort’s newly unveiled design now accommodates the chic iPhone! Each of iPort’s five in-wall models features a re-designed faceplate to accommodate Apple’s exciting new iPhone and all existing touch-wheel iPods. This allows current and new owners of the in-wall iPort the ability to upgrade to the latest iPod or to use their iPhone with the iPort.

You can pick up an iPort at Smarthome or call 888-45-iPort to find a vendor close to you.

Nokia is thinking about the environment

Nokia 3110 EvolveNokia seems to care more about the environment instead of its sells. They came up with a re-designed model, called Nokia 3110 Evolve. This phone’s features are not so extraordinary: triband, 1.3MP camera, 262K display, FM radio, MP3 player, and so on. So, why is this phone so special?

Nokia 3110 Evolve is made of 60% recyclable materials and its charger consumes 94% less energy that the Energy Star requirements. This is the second time when Nokia is thinking about the Environment after they added a notice alarm in their phone software for warning the users to unplug the charger when it’s not in use.

HTC Touch P3450 Black Smartphone (Unlocked)

HTC Touch P3450 Black Smartphone (Unlocked) The third and final product the Geeks will feature today is the HTC Touch. Here’s another smartphone that’s well, black and is controlled via touch. Perhaps that’s a theme for cell phones this year? Maybe… just maybe.

iPhone

iPhone Welcome to the fourth annual “12 Gizmos of Christmas” special the Geeks from Gizmos for Geeks have cooked up displaying the top twelve categories of gadgets and the best selling gizmos in those categories for Christmas.

Our #12 category is the cell phone and the first product is Apple’s iPhone. The iPhone caused some fanboys to camp out for the launch in front of Apple stores almost like a new Star Wars movie was opening! Fan or not of the phone you have to be impressed with the marketing and initial sales of the phone which slowed down so much that Apple actually lower the price. Also, if you’ve played with one you have to be impressed with the interface.

This phone will definitely be under a few trees or in a couple stockings this Christmas.

The Chargepod – Charge Multiple Handheld Devices at Once

Callpod Chargepod

In another example of technology meets fashion, the Callpod Chargepod allows you to charge up to six devices at once in style. You got a bunch of handheld, rechargeable devices? Then the Chargepod has adapter tips to charge them. Cell phones: Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, iPhone, Palm Treos, Blackberry; MP3 players: iPods, and the like; games; Sony Playstation Portable (PSP); USB-powered Bluetooth devices like headsets.

Just think about it for a second: no longer do you have to remember where you put those chargers. Particularly useful is when you go on travel. Just bring one charger, the Chargepod, and you’re set. It’s also lightweight, so you can immediately cut back on the weight of all of those chargers you have.

SOLO Skype Desktop Phone

IPEVO SOLO

Do you like Skype, but wish it was just appliance-ized, so you didn’t need your computer to use? Do you also want to use it in an office environment where it has more features than the usual Skype handsets? Let’s say a display, bigger keys, and a speakerphone? Then you should take a look at the SOLO Skype desktop phone from IPEVO. Here’s a good-looking desk phone that just requires an ethernet cable (it has an RJ45 port) plugged into your network with access to the Internet.

This always on Skype system allows for the usual Skype features: Skype-to-Skype, SkypeIn, SkypeOut and Skype Voicemail. Save money in calls and make things simple without needing to fuss with a computer.

New Palm Centro is the smallest Treo smartphone

Palm Centro

The upcoming Palm Centro, aka the Treo 800p (Fall 2007) will be the smallest Treo that Palm has put out yet. It will be approx 10-15% narrower, and the screen will be smaller, so this may appeal to folks who don’t like the current Treos’ bulk. Even bigger news is the price point of US$100 (with rebates and a plan), but a very attractive price for an even wider audience. Of course, with the ‘p’ at the end of the model #, this Treo will run PalmOS (Garnet for those of you keeping track).

At that price, I think that Palm stands a good chance of not only growing their base, but also putting smartphones into the hands of even more people as other vendors look to compete with them on price and features.
