Uh-oh – Even Microsoft’s Windows 7 launch has bugs in it
Oh Microsoft. It’s really not a good sign that your launch celebration of Windows 7 with cascading dominoes had ‘bugs’ in it!
(If you don’t feel like watching the whole way through, I’ll give away the ‘bugs’ – there were sections where the dominoes didn’t fall and in one case, someone had to manually push them to finish the sequence.)
Southwest shows off ‘green’ airplane that saves 9500 gallons of fuel per year
Southwest has unveiled a ‘greener’ Boeing 733-700 airplane that will serve as a test for potentially fleet-wide changes. The plane uses: recyclable carpet, lighter seat covers, lighter life vest pouches and seat foam .
The weight reduction is about 5lbs per seat and about 500lbs total for a savings of 9500 gallons of fuel per year. Well done Southwest.

I do enjoy a good relaxing trip on my $multi-million yacht, listening to my music whilst basking in the glorious sunshine, that is until my iPod gets wet and dies on me… Yeah right. But the point is, it could happen and Speedo have engineered solution to this (or, most likely, a gizmo so people can listen to music whilst swimming) – a waterproof 2GB MP3 player that doesn’t actually look ugly! 2 GB of storage should keep you entertained for long enough with about 500 songs on it and has a nice subtle look to it, where most other waterproof devices can have very tacky color schemes and patterns.
The AquaBeat easily attaches to any swimwear items, and will float to the top of the water if dropped and comes in shades of green, pink or black. You also get all the usual usability as you would get with any other standard MP3 player.

Wal-Mart is getting in on the in-home tech service business a la Best Buy’s Geek Squad or the dead Circuit City FireDog service. Expect the service to start up in time for this year’s shopping season.

BillShrink helps you save money on credit cards, gas, cell phones and savings accounts
A new online service that aims to help you save money has popped up on the ol’ Interwebs – BillShrink. BillShrink tries to help you save money in a few key areas: credit cards, gas, wireless (a.k.a. cell phone) and savings/CDs.
It asks you a few questions about your current usage, including your current plans, sometimes your address and then give you alternative options for other services that you could be using to save money.
BillShrink has a pretty clean, Web 2.0 site and is easy to use. We’re not sure how they plan to make money in the future, as this service is currently free, but they do request an e-mail address to get your results. I guess e-mail addresses are the new ‘gold’ for many online companies today.
Volkswagen’s Fun Theory team encourages people to change their behavior for the better
There’s a group at German car company, Volkswagen, called the Fun Theory team which thinks that the best way to change people’s behavior for the better is by making the change or the new behavior fun.
We think they’re right! Take a look at the ‘piano’ stairs which encouraged people to take the stairs over the escalator.
USB Ultrasonic Sonic Mosquito Pest Repeller
No idea if this specific product works, but the idea has been around for a long time in the form of other similar products that use certain frequencies to repel insects and other bugs. The twist with this one is that it is in the form of a USB stick. It is specifically meant to repel mosquitoes.
