Leave the light off – Night Lights for your Toilet

jonny glow toiletWe’re kicking off Monday morning with some toilet humor. No, not that kind. Actually, it’s a set of  gadgets for your bathroom. They’re night light accessories for your toilet, so you don’t need to turn on the light in your bathroom if you need to make a pitstop in the middle of the night.

First up is the Flush Light that replaces the flush handle on your toilet with one that has a red LED light and an on/off button. It shuts off automatically after a while.

The next toilet ‘night light’ is the Jonny Glow which is a self-adhesive fluorescent strip that goes at the top of the toilet bowl’s rim. Only problem I have with this one is a cleaning one, although they claim it’s easy to clean. On the other hand, it doesn’t need batteries or button-pressing.

MailboxForwarding receives, scans your mail, makes it available on the Web

Remember Zumbox which offers you the ability to receive mail virtually instead of at your doorstep? Well what if you’re still getting physical mail, but need to get to it from anywhere? MailboxForwarding is a company that will receive your forwarded mail and optionally scan its contents for you. You can then retrieve info about the piece of mail (and/or its contents) online.

You can then decide whether you want that piece of mail re-forwarded or shredded. MbF also handles packages and can also handle mail from practically any carrier (USPS, FedEx, UPS, etc.). Additionally, you can have your mail sent directly to MbF instead of to your home address.

Plans start at $9.99/mo for handling 40 pieces of mail, including 10 scans.

Repair cavities early on without drilling

You’re going to want to know about this advance in technology: painless cavity repair. Yup, no drills. DMG America, a dental restorative products company is behind this new technology called Icon that can repair early dental cavities before they become much worse.

The picture shows the applicator that is able to slide in between teeth to apply a resin that that fills in the gaps, the cavity, which is then quickly hardened using a blue light. Icon could potenitally start showing up in dentist offices within a year.

There are some quick animated movies demonstrating how it works at Icon’s website, appropriately named drilling-no-thanks.com.

Shapeways 3D prints models you design

shapeways modelAlthough 3D printing technology has been around for some time now, it is still many years away from home consumption as the printers are much too expensive. However, there are companies like Shapeways that offer this an outsourced service for consumers.

Head over to Shapeways.com to design and order your very own full-color high resolution 3D models. There are different types of materials that you can use. Pricing for models can go anywhere from $1 to over $1000, although most models fall into the $50 to $150 range [FAQ].

Designers can upload their designs in industry standard file formats VRML and X3D. The model bunny in the photo is an example of the items that can be ‘printed’.

Receive your snail mail virtually with a Zumbox

I much prefer to receive e-mail than snail mail (unless they’re checks!) and so I’m really like the idea of this new service called Zumbox. It’s a paperless mail/postal system. Zumbox has created a virtual mailbox for each street address in the US and anyone can send virtual mail to your Zumbox mailbox.

Now, this is not the same as your e-mail address, but something you need to sign into which works well because you don’t necessarily need to check your snail mail every single day, nor would I want all that advertising coming straight to my e-mail inbox.

The best part is that it’s free. In case you’re wondering what the catch is, they probably are able to resell their service to marketers and advertisers, so yeah, your virtual mailbox may end up being clogged with virtual spam, but hey, better than my actual mailbox.

Hit Zumbox.com to sign up and claim your mailing address.

Basketball Hoop Alarm Clock – make a basket to snooze the alarm

basketball alarm clockWoot! Another crazy alarm clock – this one makes you shoot hoops to disable snooze the alarm clock. By the time you make a basket, you’re probably going to be pretty worked up and awake.

I think after day one, I’d probably give up and just let the alarm continue!

CES 2010: Gunnar Optiks Shows Off Stylish 3D Glasses

The big thing at CES this year was 3D, and Gunnar Optiks unveiled a line of stylish 3D glasses. We previously reviewed Gunnar Optiks glasses from last year’s CES, and it seems the company is only getting bigger. Although the 3D glasses aren’t available yet, Gunnar also showed off its MLG branded glasses.

Gunnar’s non-3D high performance glasses are targeted towards gamers and people who spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen. They claim to reduce eye strain, improve vision clarity, and even prevent dry eyes. So how can they do this? …
