USBCell batteries are rechargeable via USB

usbcell rechargeable batteriesUSBCell is a new take on rechargeable batteries – they’re recharged via USB power – just pop the top and plug them into any available standard sized USB port.

They’re not as cheap, but they’ll last a lot longer than your regular one-and-done batteries. Now while the capacity of these are not quite as good as typical rechargeables (we like Energizers), the advantage is that you don’t have to lug around a charger, and any ubiquitous USB port will do.

Get rechargeable batteries (like the USBCells) if you’re a huge battery user. Stop dumping old toxic batteries back into the system. Remember that even recycling takes energy and isn’t 100% efficient; there’s still waste.

Dell’s ‘Solar’ Parking Lot recharges plug-in cars

dell's solar parking lotDell is one company that is at least trying to tackle the climate problem in whatever capacity they can. For example, here’s what I feel is a great idea: solar cell-lined shaded parking structures.

These ‘trees’ not only shade cars from the sun, but also collect and can power electrical outlets in the column, so you can plug in your electric car during the day.

Built by Envision Solar, hopefully we’ll see many more of these in company parking lots across the world.

Tiny Spy Cam is Motion Activated, Can Work as WebCam

brickhouse spy camHere’s another fantastically tiny spy camera that we could add to our round-up list of spycams. This glass-lens spy cam takes 640×480 video at 30 fps and can also act as a web cam if you so desire.

One of its best features has to be the SD card slot that can accept cards up to 16GB which translates into roughly 250 hours of AVI video. Another great feature is the voice-activated recording, so perfect for keeping an eye on your home/office when you’re not there.

Review: Cyber Clean – The Ironically Slime-Looking Cleaning Compound

cyber clean keyboardYou may have seen this product, Cyber Clean, on TV and we got our hands on some of the light-flourescent-green colored silly putty like blob to test it out.

How It Works:
Take the Cyber Clean blob and press it (don’t rub) to the surface you want to clean. Cyber Clean molds to the surface you apply it to, after which you peel it off the surface. It encapsulates the dirt and bacteria into its self.

Does It Work?
In particular, Cyber Clean likes to use the example of the disgusting keyboard that traps a lot more dirt, food particles and bacteria than you can imagine. And yes, Cyber Clean definitely picks up the dust and particles on the keyboard and in between the keys. However, it’s not so elastic and ‘smart’ to get to the particles that have fallen beneath the keys. There’s no question that this is a better method than the paper towel and household cleaner that I’ve used in the past – it picks up a great deal more and is much faster.

USB 3.0 (SuperSpeed) is Fast! What to Expect and When

usb 3.0 superspeed logoAlthough the specs for USB 3.0 were nailed down in late 2008, production of devices that support or run USB 3.0 have really only now started showing up. Here’s a bit of insight as to what you can expect in the next 2 years.

At CES, a few manufacturers showed off their USB 3.0 wares. In particular, a few like Gigabyte and Asus have motherboards with USB 3.0 ports, while laptop makers HP, Asus and others joined the party, and of course external hard-drive makers like Western Digital and Seagate had their new gadgets with USB 3.0.
