Wi-Fi Only Kindle with Ads Will Be $25 Cheaper

Kindle 3rd gen WiFiAmazon.com has just announced that they will begin selling a slightly cheaper version of the Wi-Fi only Kindle that will include special offers (aka advertisements) and sponsored screensavers.

The new version which goes on sale May 3, 2011 will cost $114. The regular, non-ad version is $139.

I can see the trade-off of paying less in exchange for having to see/watch ads, but at a mere difference of $25 (about an 18% discount), it doesn’t seem worth it. And we don’t even know how intrusive the ads would be.

Plug-In Compact iPhone/iPod Speaker Dock

Similar to Quirky, Kickstarter is another website that helps back designer’s innovative ideas, as long as enough money is pledged to the product. The idea we’re featuring today is the WALdok – a iPhone/iPod plug-in speaker, and has already met its funding pledge so will go into production on the 9th of April this year.

Amazon Cloud Drive

Amazon Races Ahead of Google, Apple with Digital Locker Called Cloud Drive

Amazon Cloud DriveAmazon.com just rolled out a number of related products revolving around storing your music, movies, photos or whatever in the cloud, Amazon’s cloud to be specific. Amazon just got a huge jump on Google, Apple, Microsoft and anyone else that wanted to get into this ‘digital locker’ game. And I use the word ‘game’ facetiously, because this is big business. Just ask Apple (re: iTunes).

First an overview. Cloud Drive is the linchpin in this whole deal. It’s where you store your well… anything. It can be music and everyone seems to be fixated on that, but it can be photos, videos, documents – so your own personal hard drive, but stored on Amazon’s S3 servers.

My New iPad A User's Guide Best iPad Apps

Review: My New iPad: A User’s Guide – No Starch Press

My New iPad A User's Guide Best iPad Apps Wallace Wang, best seller of My New Mac and My New iPhone for the No Starch Press publisher has written a new book detailing everything you need to know about the iPad in a book called “My New iPad: A User’s Guide.” No Starch Press provided a reviewer’s copy of “My New iPad: A User’s Guide” for this review.

“My New iPad: A User’s Guide” includes seven chapters including: basic training; customizing your iPad; getting on the Internet; sharing data with your iPad; video, music, and eBooks; organizing yourself and additional tips. Each chapter is small and comes in easily consumable chunks of information that can instantly help new users complete a certain task with easy to follow step by step instructions.

The first chapter called “Basic Training” teaches you how to turn on and off the iPad, what the various buttons and slides perform and how to use and customize the virtual keyboard. Apple changed the Screen Location Lock since the book was published so information has changed since the publish date resulting in incorrect information.

Even ignoring the top 5 market-leading vendors that we compared in our eReader Comparison Report, here are 10 alternative eReader products of easily dozens currently available.

1. Hanvons – 5 inch display

Hanvon-WISEreader

Hanvon has been hammering the penny-pincher market for over a year now. It must have been fruitful, because now they’re rolling out four new low-cost models with screens ranging from 5 inches to 9.7″. The new models will even include touchscreens, allowing note-making via the included stylus. And, as always, expect to see Wifi/3G connectivity included and a price point that’ll make you blush.
