Split Stick – 2 Flash Drives In One

USB Split Stick

Some ‘crazy’ people over at quirky.com have designed a flash drive they named the Split Stick. This is a 2GB, double-ended flash drive that allows you to switch between 2 different memory units by sliding a button along, separating your work from leisure or whatever else it may be that you choose to keep separate.

The units are available in a variety of colors and can be etched with a symbol on each side of the stick to help remember which section is which – you don’t want to be opening up your holiday snaps at work! The price is also very attractive for such a unique product at $24.99 but it is still in the development stage.

This product just leaves me with one question – wouldn’t it have been a lot easier and cost effective to simply partition a 4GB drive?

Gardenwatch Cam – watch your garden grow from your desk

Gardenwatch Cam

The Gardenwatch Cam is a snappy little innovation that lets you record your garden growing by taking pictures at predetermined intervals (standard ones are 1 min, 5 mins, 30 mins, 1 hour, 4 hours, 24 hours or set your own!) in JPEG format, and them playing them back to you in a Discovery Channel-style long exposure movie.

The pictures are taken with a 1.3MP camera and stored on an 8GB internal memory. All-in-all it’s quite an interesting product, and might brighten up your desktop with some amazing photos of the plants and the sunrise that you just wouldn’t be awake for otherwise.

This little find is a rather cute retro robot that also serves as a 1GB flash drive – simply pop his head off to reveal a USB plug, plug him into the computer and away you go. To make this product even cuter, his eyes light up when files are being transferred! He comes in blue, green and black and special editions might be released in the future.

Article Recap for the Week Ending Apr 24, 2009

Here are some of our notable articles for the past week. First we pondered whether Twitter’s popularity would last. Google News now has a Timeline of Events – nice feature.

We noticed that YouTube were looking to accept full length and legal content, while Fuijitsu have developed some secure new memory sticks. Adobe announced their plans to integrate Flash technology with TVs.

Oracle is picking up where IBM left off, buying out Sun for around $7 billion. That’s a lot of Rubik’s Cube Clocks!

ReQall – Give Yourself A Brain Extension

ReQall Memory Aid

ReQall is a very nice piece of to-do software; it allows you to make a to-do with reminders via a wide range of media. When setting yourself a to-do note, you can call their toll free number and dictate the note (using voice recognition software), text the note, instant message (IM) the note, send via a Firefox extension and by applications available for many phones (including of course iPhones and Blackerrys).

There is integration with Google Calendar & Outlook, sharing of items with other people, and the premium version even has location-aware reminders (ex: you go to the supermarket and want to be reminded to buy milk).

The basic version is free and the Pro version is $2.99/month or $24.99 a year – a real bargain for what you get.

Fujitsu Develop Data-Erase USB Memory Sticks

Fujitsu Data-Erase Memory Device

Fujitsu have just announced their latest memory security device; one that erases the data after a certain time period and also has the ability to block users from copying the files from the memory stick to a PC. Perfect if you’ve had your memory stick with confidential files on lost or stolen (something that that would probably be welcomed in the UK).
