To turn the feature on, just go to the Labs tab under Settings and enable Background Send. This one is a no-brainer. Just use it. I’m pretty sure this is one that will soon become a standard feature.

Gmail's Priority Inbox

Will Gmail’s Priority Inbox Work?

Google has a new Gmail feature to help those of us suffering from e-mail overload – Priority Inbox.

The idea is relatively simple. The Priority Inbox component watches your e-mail, what you read and reply to, what you delete and other signals and tries to ‘learn’ what you consider important. It then separates your Inbox into 3 sections: Important (at the top naturally), the Starred items, and Everything Else.

New Gmail Lab lets you see Maps of addresses embedded in e-mails

Gmail has long had an automatic link to a map to the right of the e-mail if it detected an address in the body. But now, there’s a new Gmail Lab called “Google Maps previews in mail” that will let you preview the map right in the body of the e-mail.

It takes a few seconds to load, but it seems quicker than either clicking that automatic link or copying & pasting the address into a separate Google Maps window.
