ROKR is a Flopper

The long awaited iTunes phone, the Motorola ROKR, is a flop. In fact, according to this article, at a Engadget reader meet-up in San Francisco the device was booed when the Engadget editors held up the ROKR as a door prize!

While the ROKR apparently sounds great many of the features were poorly implemented such as needing to use a USB 1.0 cable to transfer music to the phone (at very un-whopping transfer speeds up to 12MB/s). Also, the phone should be able to connect to the iTunes server and download the music directly without needing a PC. Finally, why the hard limit of 100 songs?

mobiBLU 512 MB Cube Digital Audio Player

mobiBLU 512 MB Cube Digital Audio Player

The mobiBLU Cube claims to be the smallest MP3 player in the world. At less than 1 inch on each side, it’s certainly near the top if not in fact there. On this tiny gadget, there’s enough space for an LED display that shows track info, settings and battery indicator, a headphone jack and audio controls. Play time is rated at 8 to 10 hours, and the mobiBLU plays WMA in addition to MP3. Not enough? How about an FM radio, a voice recorder, a sleep timer and equalizer modes?

Is The iPod Nano Screen Durable Enough?

Just a heads-up in case you’re thinking about buying the new iPod Nano: it may have some durability issues, especially with the screen’s resistance to scratches. An article on CNET points to some threads on Apple’s discussion board as well as a website dedicated to the subject (flawedmusicplayer.com) that talks about easily and badly the screen gets scratched. On the other hand, there are many other users who say that it’s just abuse that is causing this damage and point to an Ars Technica report that says it’s pretty durable.

Palm, Microsoft Set to Announce Windows-based Treo

Bill Gates of Microsoft, Palm CEO Ed Colligan and Verizon Wireless President Denny Strigl are set for a press event in San Francisco on Monday. Although they’ve declined to say what they’re about to announce, most experts believe that they are going to announce the long-expected debut of a Palm Treo running Windows. The rumor on the Net is that the new Treo’s model # is the 700W.

Logitech Bluetooth Wireless Headphones

Logitech Bluetooth Wireless Headphones

Sure, the white wires that attach to your iPod are distinctive, but wouldn’t it be cool to be wire-free? Well, check out these Bluetooth headphones from Logitech. You can get up to 30ft away from your iPod and still be rocking out to your tunes. The headphones come with an adapter that snaps onto your iPod or iPod mini. And if you’re far away from your pod and need to change the track, these headphones even have controls to let you adjust volume, play, pause or select tracks.

Apple iPod Nano

Apple iPod Nano

Apple describes the iPod nano as “impossibly small” and considering the dimensions of 1.6 x 3.5 x .27 inches, we have to agree. Oh yeah, that depth measurement is point 27 inches. Weighing in at 1.5 ounces, you are also more likely to realize you have change in your pocket than the nano which could be bad if you wash your jeans without remembering that the iPod nano was still in them!

What I really like about the iPod nano over the iPod Shuttle is the user interface. The Shuttle has the basic forward, play, stop, etc… but the iPod nano has the iPod clickwheel that the later version of the iPod including the iPod mini have enjoyed along with a crisp color screen.

It looks like Apple will continue to ride the iPod wave…

Review: Belkin TuneBase-FM for iPod mini

Review: Belkin TuneBase-FM for iPod mini

If you cannot afford the ultimate iPod accessory (a new car with iPod integration) but want your digital music played through your car speakers, there are a few ways to accomplish this. Provided you have a tape player there are a couple of devices that you could use. The devices have a fake tape that you put in the tape player and play with a wire connected to a connection that either plugs into the headphone jacks or the bottom of your iPod. Also, and more popular, several manufacturers have created mini radio stations or FM transcievers that plug into your iPod and transmit over an FM frequency to your radio like a radio station would. The FCC is quite strict on these devices though so you can only transmit a decently weak signal.

The Geeks got a hold of a Belkin TuneBase-FM for an iPod mini and put the device though some testing. Read on to see what we thought of the TuneBase-FM.
