USB Wireless Computer Control

USB Compute Remote Control

This nifty innovation takes the TV remote to the next level by turning it into a computer remote. All you need to do is plug the USB receiver into your computer and away you go. The remote features buttons for all the major computer functions, such as page up/down, tab, mouse, typing controls (in a mobile phone keyboard layout) and even a mouse to help you hunt around your screen.

There are also a number of hotkeys on the top of the remote that can be programmed to start the application of your choice. Unfortunately style was not one of the inventor’s strong points!

Split Stick – 2 Flash Drives In One

USB Split Stick

Some ‘crazy’ people over at quirky.com have designed a flash drive they named the Split Stick. This is a 2GB, double-ended flash drive that allows you to switch between 2 different memory units by sliding a button along, separating your work from leisure or whatever else it may be that you choose to keep separate.

The units are available in a variety of colors and can be etched with a symbol on each side of the stick to help remember which section is which – you don’t want to be opening up your holiday snaps at work! The price is also very attractive for such a unique product at $24.99 but it is still in the development stage.

This product just leaves me with one question – wouldn’t it have been a lot easier and cost effective to simply partition a 4GB drive?

49 Port USB Hub

Should you ever need to plug 49 USB devices into a hub at once, you’ll be thankful there is a solution – Cambrionix’s 49 port USB hub. Okay, so it wasn’t designed for the consumer market (it was supposed to be used in large test labs and business offices) but it would still be pretty cool for a power user to have. Axxis Biotmetrics USB Fingerprint Lock

Sure, fingerprint-based locks have been around for a while, but we particularly like this one for its USB port so that you can easily program it and download records. The Axxis Biotmetrics USB Fingerprint Lock is perfect if you’re building your evil genius hideaway or more tamely, if you have a business and want to better secure the buildings and/or some rooms.

A user needs to enter a PIN as well, so just cutting some guy’s thumb off isn’t going to do the trick alone! There are 2 add-on accessories that you can get for this lock. First is the AT (audit trail) upgrade which lets you download all the accesses (successful and failed) to a USB thumb drive and display them on a computer.

Mimo Mini USB Monitor – expand your screen real estate

Mim Mini USB Monitor

Having a dual monitor is pretty cool, but desk space, available sockets and video card troubles can be an issue when decided whether or not to buy one. Don’t worry! GfG have found a solution to your problems – the Mimo Mini USB Monitor. This is a portable 7″ screen that can be plugged into a computer or laptop to add a little more screen space into the mix. Connecting via USB (2.0), the mini monitor adds that little extra flexibility to your workspace and is perfect for making notes or reading emails. Landscape and portrait modes are both supported for that bit of YouTube viewing.

The Mimi Mini USB Monitor supports PCs and intel Macs and doesn’t require any extra software or leads – the video card is built into the screen and powers via the USB connection. Some specs:

  • Display resolution – 800 x 480
  • Brightness – 350cd/m2
  • Contrast ratio – 400:1

Okay, so it’s not quite the same spec as a proper monitor but it’s still pretty impressive.
