Yahoo! Mail still #1, but for how much longer?

ComScore shows Yahoo Mail is still the world’s leader in e-mail services, but the bad news (for Yahoo) is that Google’s Gmail is the fastest growing service. Hotmail is still #2, and AOL just slipped to #4 after Gmail who leapfrogged them to go to #3.

Four years ago when we sized up Hotmail vs Yahoo vs Gmail, Gmail was the clear winner and has only become progressively better. Witness all of the improvements and feature additions that they’ve [Google] have put into Gmail.

For example, this week Google showed off another killer feature – the ability to import your e-mail from other accounts into Gmail.

Do yourself a favor and get a Gmail account.

This week saw us yearning after some ‘appliance 2.0’ technology including ‘connected’ washers/dryers and a freezer failure sensor kit.

We reviewed a poster printing service which we thought was pretty good.

The Easy iPod Media Sharer‘s name says it all – useful family gadget. We do love our Gmail; their new lab is cool – an Inbox Preview feature.

We feel that President Obama is taking the right approach in creating a Cyber Czar position.

Gmail’s Inbox Preview saves you time on slow connections

If you’re ever on a slow, nail-biter of an Internet connection and it’s taking forever to load your feature-rich Gmail Inbox, you will love this new Lab feature – Inbox Preview. It simply shows a very simple, static page of your inbox with the 10 newest messages. What’s the benefit? Imagine yourself on the run and need to quickly check if you have any new, important e-mails.

Inbox Preview to the rescue. Of course, if you’re like me and get hundreds of e-mail per day, this may only help a tad. Active Inbox Preview by heading into the Gmail Labs section of your account.

This past week on GfG, we featured FINIS’s new product – a heart rate monitor for swimmers. Palm have confirmed they will be rolling out the Palm Pre on June 6.

We took a look at the upcoming movie, Gamer, which has a different take on gaming in the future. Gmail has even more new features.

Coffee lovers rejoice. There are two new products out there: the Aerobie fresh coffee maker and the Aerolatte To Go milk frother.

Gmail’s 2 latest features: Translation and Import from other accounts

Gmail has 2 cool new features. The first can be really useful for those of us who frequently get e-mail from all over the world – language translation. Just head into your Gmail Labs section, look for Message Translation and enable. Messages in foreign languages will now have a link to translate. I was surprised that some Chinese messages were translated into very readable text.

Article Recap for the Week ending Apr 17, 2009

We started off the week by reporting that Amazon’s Kindle Store has surpassed over 260,000 books with an exponential growth rate – at least that’s not a reason not to own one.

We took a look at the available VHS to DVD converters and other analog to digital converters (both hardware and software solutions).

We featured a bunch of Google-related news. The latest offering from Gmail Labs is a tiny addition but welcome one – insert images directly into email. Next are the many uses of Google Latitude and last is the news that Google and universal were partnering up on a music video website called Vevo.

Rounding up, we pleasantly discovered that Facebook is
not only attracting younger members. Rock Band fan? Nowhere to put your instruments? Then take a look at the ‘Rock Box’ Rock Band storage box.

Gmail Labs now has an insert image feature

Thank you, thank you Gmail Labs team. There is now a new Labs feature that lets you insert images directly into e-mails you compose within Gmail. While it’s not something I use that often, when I do, I spend waaaay too much time trying to get images inserted.

Don’t know about Gmail Labs? Oh, you’re missing out, but I warn you – don’t go clicking that tab right now unless you’ve got a few hours to spend exploring, oohing and aahing.
