FUEL BlackBerry and iPhone Cases – Recharge Your Phone

iPhone FUEL Case

Looking back at some of the portable charging devices we’ve featured over the years, there really hasn’t been one as useful, and perhaps as elegant (that might be subjective), as this. Whilst providing your BlackBerry Bold 9000 or iPhone 3G with a rubber protective case and belt clip, it also has a built in battery to keep your phone going for up to an extra 20 days (BlackBerry) or 250 hours (iPhone) via its built in rechargeable battery which can be activated with the touch of a button.

Many people have to swap batteries constantly to keep their phones going but this does take you offline for a few moments which can be a pain – it’s either that or buying an unsightly solar charger like above!. The FUEL keeps you going without any delay in services and can even be charged simultaneously with your phone by simply plugging it into the wall socket. On the iPhone, docking doesn’t have to mean ditching the case either – it can all be done through it.

Time for the icing on the cake – every purchase comes with a free $5 Starbucks giftcard.

Microsoft, Verizon to collaborate on an iPhone competitor

Oh Microsoft, for all of your improvements and even advancements over the years, you still manage to make me laugh and scratch my head in amazement. If you really wanted to compete with the iPhone, why didn’t you start a long time, oh say when you first knew they were coming out with the device?

You have a strange habit of coming late to the game and being annoyed that your competing product doesn’t vault immediately to the #1 position.  Your touchscreen ‘MSPhone’ could potentially outsell the iPhone (especially if Apple sticks to just AT&T for a cellular network), but it’s not about to happen any time soon. Good luck – we’ll be watching what happens.

iceTech Solar-3000: Solar Charger for iPhone

iPhone Solar Charger

The iceTECH Solar-3000 is an iPhone charger than runs on solar energy. Okay, you may be thinking ‘Yeah, yeah; seen it before!’, which you most likely have, but this one actually does the job stylishly, which can’t be said for a lot of the others. Compatible with all iPhone models (and even iPods), you don’t have to worry about your handset running out of juice with this by your side; just leave it in the sun somewhere, whether that be on your dashboard in the car or even on the desk in the middle of a meeting.

The product, available in white, red or black, is an iPhone charger like no other – it is essentially a case with slots for business/credit cards (and things of similar size) with the charger plugged into the bottom. No point wasting money on a case and a solar charger when you can just have this, right?

I dub thee iPencil… DIY iPhone Stand

Fatgadget from Geeky Gadgets had a problem, and as all good Geeks do… he solved it.

While working on his PC, he wanted to watch some video but just could not get his iPhone properly propped. Looking around his desk in MacGyver mode, he found 5 pencils and some elastic bands which were crafted into a simple but effective iPhone prop-per we think is brilliant so we dubbed the “iPencil”.

Check out the Geeky Gadgets quick but simple how to.

Working Linux on iPhone

In another hardware conquest for the Linux platform, it has been successfully ported to the iPhone. While the current version is not much more than a working, beta version, it does prove that a Linux iPhone is a viable proposition.

As Gizmodo points out in the headline of their article, this may be the start of an Android iPhone. Oh, the irony is fantastic.

For much more geeky details, take a look at the blog, and/or the video.

Control your Sonos system via an iPhone app

The subject pretty much says it all – if you’ve got an iPhone and a Sonos music system, you can now download a free app from the iPhone App Store to remotely control it.

Oh, the app also works on an iPod Touch. While you’re at it, you can also upgrade to the latest Sonos firmware (2.7) which includes access to music service Last.fm, Internet Radio station site RadioTime, and Pandora.

iPhone 3G Launch and Network Problems

The long awaited iPhone 3G was released on Friday, July 11th. But what should have been a happy and joyous day for iPhone fans, ended up being an exercise in frustration for many.

AT&T’s insistence on trying to activate the phones in store taxed Apple’s authentication server (more info) and caused lines to move at a snail’s pace or sent buyers home with a phone only good for making emergency calls. During last year’s iPhone 1.0 launch Apple had everyone activate their own phone at home through iTunes.

Worse yet, AT&T outlets were allowed to sell far fewer phones that Apple Stores, forcing them to turn away customers who waited hours to get their hands on one. …
