OtherInBox aims to sort and summarize your e-mail inbox

OtherInBox logoIf you’re like me, then you awaken every day to an e-mail Inbox filled with at least 25+ new messages, and that’s not even counting the other messages that were already filtered to folders/labels. Those new messages come in all shapes and sizes, and more than a few are from commercial senders, such as banks, retailers, etc. And those messages continue to pour in throughout the day.

If you treat your Inbox like a To Do list, then this can seem overwhelming. Gmail has decided that one way to tackle this is by prioritizing your e-mail. You assist Gmail’s built-in brain by marking e-mails up or down in priority/importance. While this may work for you, you may not wish to spend any incremental time continually training it like a puppy or a child.

Enter OtherInBox. OtherInBox (OIB) assesses all of your e-mail, organizes it based on sender and presents you with a dashboard summary of those messages. It will also summarize and send you a daily digest. The aim here is to get those e-mails out of your way and leave your inbox more slanted to personal messages. …

7 Things You Can Do on a Windows Phone 7 That You Can’t Do on an iPhone

Windows 7 vs iPhoneWith the recent launch of the new Windows 7 smartphones, this article courtesy of Retrevo.com comparing the iPhone to a Win7 phone is timely.

By Sarah Martin of Retrevo.com

With this week’s North American debut of the Windows Phone 7 we decided to dive into the Microsoft vs Apple fray and see how Windows Phone 7 is going to stack up with iOS 4. (Full disclosure: Retrevo was selected by Microsoft to be a BizSpark One partner.) Since its 2007 release the iPhone has dominated the smartphone market recently its supremacy has been challenged by the Android OS, and now Microsoft is going to do its best to snatch some of that market-share as well. To have any hope of doing so however, Microsoft has to be able to offer something new or innovative to consumers. In that vein, here are a few things WP7 does that the iPhone does not. …

Mozilla Labs shows off F1 sharing button

Mozilla Labs F1 Sharing buttonMozilla Labs has a first-cut out of an extension/service they’re calling F1 that allows you to quickly and easily share any web page via a toolbar button in Firefox, without having to go to the sharing/email service or depend on the website itself having a share button(s).

Right now, it only supports Facebook, Twitter and Gmail, but will support more services as long as those services make authorization and remote sharing relatively straightforward. …

Google New helps you keep track of new Google products and services

As you well know by now, Google does a lot more than just search. They own YouTube, created Gmail, Google Docs, Chrome & Picasa and have dozens more various products and services.

Keeping up with what’s new can be a tough game, but luckily a 20-percenter project was created to do just that – keep folks informed of what’s new. Naturally, it’s called Google New!

Google now offers simultaneous multiple account sign-in

Another one of those ‘at last’ features: Google now has a multiple account sign-in feature, so you don’t need to use a different browser or logout-and-login in order to check a different Google account.

For now, this feature only works with a select few G-services, but they include Gmail, Calendar, Reader & Voice.

To use, just head over to your Google Account settings and edit the Multiple Sign-In option.

Google Multiple=

Be careful though with this feature – it’s not exactly trivial, so you’ll want to read the help on it. By the way, if you’d rather not use this, there’s a neat Greasemonkey Script called Google Account Multi-Login that works  similarly.

Anonymizer Universal

Review: Anonymizer Universal, Privacy and Identify Protection

Anonymizer UniversalThe Geeks received an invitation to test Anonymizer, Inc.’s new consumer-based online privacy and identity protection service called Anonymizer Universal which was released in June. Anonymizer Universal creates a secure and encrypted VPN tunnel between the user and The Anonymizer Network to prevent interception of identifiable information, or “packet sniffing.” The technology protects the user by replacing their personal IP Address with an anonymous IP Address daily. One of the differentiators from other anonymizer’s that are browser-based, Anonymizer Universal works for all Internet activity including accessing the web, obtaining email, streaming music, instant messaging and playing online games.

In addition to traditional Windows and Mac Operating Systems, Anonymizer Universal also protects a user’s mobile Internet activities. For example Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch devices use a “Connect/Disconnect” interface that runs silently in the background to establish and tear down the VPN session. The service only requires a simple download, and can be up and running immediately. Anonymizer Universal’s retail price is $79.99 (U.S.) per year, and is available via the company’s website (www.anonymizer.com) and select Anonymizer Authorized Resellers which provides a license good for one computer and one mobile Apple device.

This video was created to demonstrate the service:

My 12 Favorite Apps for the iPad that Rock! – May 2010 Edition

iPad appsIn a couple of days I will have had my iPad for an entire month. In the past four weeks, my laptop and desktop machines have seen a considerable drop in use from me as the iPad has taken over several functions I had used them for.

The apps represented in my Top 12 Favorite iPad Apps are the ones that have helped the most with this transition plus a few other iPad apps that simply have caught my fancy.

I have a feeling this list will continue to change on a weekly basis with a few exceptions (the top 4 or 5 for example).

Let’s get started with the countdown with #12…
