Tablet market heating up as dozens of companies to release products this year

Although tablets existed before Apple introduced the iPad, they’ve certainly gone a long way to turning it into a full-fledged niche of its own and no longer simply a minor laptop variation. Of course, no electronics company wants to ‘miss out’ on the possibility to rake in some dough on the back of this hot new trend and to that end, dozens — yes dozens — of companies are releasing products this year.

Blackberry puts out a tablet, the PlayBook, to compete with Apple

RIM Blackberry PlayBook

It may seem a little strange that the maker of Blackberrys (Research in Motion or RIM) is releasing a tablet, but that’s the strange world that Apple has generated. And so today, RIM announced their Blackberry PlayBook, a 7” LCD, 1024 x 600 touch screen tablet with full multi-touch and gesture support.

Pivot Power bends so all of your adapters get plugged in

Quirky Pivot Power StripWhat a great concept. This power strip bends and pivots (hence the name) so that you can get all those weird-shaped power adapters plugged in without having to skip an outlet or 2.

PivotPower is another  community-developed product over at Quirky. It has 6 outlets, surge protection, and comes in versions for both American (110v) and European (240v) markets.

This is a much nicer version of the power strip liberator or the Power Squid.

Review: AViiQ Portable Laptop Stand

AViiQ – Portable Laptop StandThis is one of those no-batteries-needed ‘gadgets’ for your battery-hungry gadget, your laptop. I loved the AViiQ Laptop Stand the minute I saw it in a photo. It is just so sleek-looking with its European design sensibility. Of course, the fact that it folds up into a 1/4-inch thick board is what put me over the top. I took the AViiQ for a test drive and here’s what I found.

LOK-IT Secure USB Flash Drive encrypts and authenticates

LOK-IT Secure USB Flash Drive

Just today, I was explaining to someone why they needed to encrypt or at least password-protect their USB flash drive. There is one simple, overarching reason – if you lose it, someone else has easy access to all the data on your thumb drive, and they’re easy to lose/forget about. …
