EA Sports Active 2 Released for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii

EA Sports Active 2The Wii, especially the Wii Fit, was released on the premise that it would make us all much fitter; it would completely reverse the stereotype of couch-potato video gaming.

However, it never really took off to the extent that one would have imagined or Nintendo would have hoped. Sure some people do have some success with the Wii as a fitness device but it hasn’t lived up to its full potential.

But that hasn’t deterred other gaming companies. EA (Electronic Arts) for example is onto its 2nd version of EA Active and it even has its own heart rate monitor.

Netflix no longer requires disc for PS3 and Wii

Wii and PS3 offer disc-less Netflix streamingComing on the heels of Netflix announcing that PS3 consumers no longer need a disc to stream Netflix content, Netflix customers with a Wii console can begin streaming movies from the service without the Netflix disc starting this week.

Last week, Sony launched the disc-less service for PS3 console customers. PS3 customers, unlike Wii customers, will be able to view Netflix content in high-definition viewing with surround sound.

Sony Playstation3 comes in 2 new sizes and has a sleeker new look

As hard drive prices have come down, storage amounts have increased. So much so that even gaming consoles are pushing up the storage amounts while the price has remained the same or even dropped.

Case in point is Sony’s Playstation3 system which has a sleeker new look as well as a few new sizes: 120GB and 250GB. There is also a 160GB version, but that is in the old style.

Still has a bunch of the same features: Wi-Fi connectivity, HDMI output, and of course, the Blu-ray DVD player.

The 120GB system includes a DualShock3 wireless controller and a free PlayStationNetwork membership.

Get Papa John’s pizza from your Playstation 3

Following on the heels of Tivo users being able to order Domino’s pizza from their Tivo, PS3 owners will now have a Papa John’s button on their startup page from which they can order pizza.

What’s next? Order Pizza Hut from your Dish satellite receiver? Somehow I don’t think pizza should be the food of choice for folks doing nothing on their couches!

PlayStation Phone rumor

Sony Ericsson Aino

Remember the Nokia N-Gage? No? You know, it was that phone made by Nokia and SEGA that people were supposed to be able to play games on like a games console? The point here is it never took off. A bit of de ja vu here – Sony Ericsson and Sony have teamed up in an effort to produce what looks like could be the PlayStation Phone.

So far we’ve seen the Aino – a touch screen gadget that allows media exchange with the PS3 and boasts an impressive 8.1MP camera. There’s another range of similar devices being announced along with this, which does seem to be pointing towards the possibility of a PlaySation Phone. Nice.

Guitar Hero 5 – Coming Soon!

Guitar Hero 5

Yes! This is real news – a few organisations are reporting that Guitar Hero 5 is due to be released this fall to try and increase its target audience with a whole range of new features (not much news yet on what these are) but there seems to be general focus around so-called ‘social play’. Some examples of new features are the ability to ‘jump’ in and out of songs, change the level of difficulty whenever you want during a song and adding more multiplayer game types such as a scenario where the weakest player in each song is eliminated, leaving just the best.

I like the idea of being able to change the difficulty mid-song.
