Sure, fingerprint-based locks have been around for a while, but we particularly like this one for its USB port so that you can easily program it and download records. The Axxis Biotmetrics USB Fingerprint Lock is perfect if you’re building your evil genius hideaway or more tamely, if you have a business and want to better secure the buildings and/or some rooms.

A user needs to enter a PIN as well, so just cutting some guy’s thumb off isn’t going to do the trick alone! There are 2 add-on accessories that you can get for this lock. Multi-Accessible Combination & Key-fob Doorlock

Keys have been around a very long time now and so have numerical door locks, but this device takes security to a whole new level. This is essentially a normal door lock handle combined with a numerical door lock, allowing you to open it with either key, a code, an iButton or a combination of these. Multiple people can be given access by giving them different iButtons. You can also restrict access based on certain times of the day and it will even lock the door behind that forgetful person.

The iButton is basically a computer chip in a key-fob sized piece of plastic that allows you to swipe against a sensor in the lock. Finally, if you’re thinking this isn’t quite good enough for you, then consider this – the U.S. Mint actually uses iButtons.

Unlock Your Doors Remotely via INSTEON

Turning lights on and off are just a fraction of what you can do with your home automation system. I/O Linc’s INSTEON Remote Control Door Strike Kit actually allow you to allow entry or exit by locking or unlocking doors at a press of a button, even remotely from work.

The electric door strike is hardwired to the delay timer/relay and both are powered by a power supply. The delay timer/relay is then connected to the output of the included I/O Linc – INSTEON Low Voltage / Contact Closure Interface (1 In / 1 Out), which simply plugs into an available outlet. When I/O Linc receives a signal from any linked INSTEON device, the built-in programmable relay can keep a door or gate open for up 25 seconds before automatically locking. By using the delay/timer relay, you gain the added flexibility of keeping a door or gate unlocked for up to 60 minutes. This kit gives you the control to regulate access to and from your property.
