Review: postersPrinting.com – Photo to Poster service

We recently encountered a new service called PostersPrinting which will take your digital photo and turn it into a quality poster which you can then frame or perhaps use for presentations. We took this service out for a test run and were very pleased with the results. Read on for the review.

First we started out with a high resolution photo [pictured]. Granted, this photo was taken with a point-and-click digital camera, and not by a professional photographer, we still loved the photo and the result. Beauty does lie in the eye of the beholder and sometimes your own photos have more value than something you picked up in a store.

PostersPrinting offers multiple sizes of posters – 12″x18″, 18″x24″, 24″x36″, and 36″x48″; multiple paper stock – Matte, Heavy Matte and Photo; and multiple finishing options – none, laminated and foam core (great for presentations). Prices (including shipping) range anywhere from approximately $15 to over $100 depending on those various factors.

We sent in the photo (resolution 1536×2048) and asked for a size of 18″x24″ on photo paper. We were very impressed by the results. Actually, we thought the poster looked better than the original digital photo. One very important step that PostersPrinting takes is to analyze the quality of your photo when you upload before you checkout and purchase, and rates it on a scale from A to E. This particular photo received a rating of B and still turned out excellent as a poster. Total cost: ~ $27.

We were a tad bit disappointed that the top and bottom edges of the poster were slightly damaged, and we don’t see how they could have been damaged in the sturdy poster shipping package as those edges were along the long side of the cylinder. Anyway, this is only noticeable on close inspection and once the print is in a frame, it won’t be visible.

Overall, we were very happy with the result and highly recommend PostersPrinting. Additionally, PostersPrinting is not a standalone startup but is backed by Mimeo.com which is a 10-yr old established document printing outfit.
