Just yesterday, Toshiba announced that they had just released the world’s lightest and the world’s thinnest notebooks. Well, I haven’t checked the stats on *all* of the available notebooks out there, but I can definitely say that starting at 1.72lbs, the Portege R500-S5003 is really dang light. To think, I would have been happy with a 4-pounder.
Now onto the the thin notebook. The S5004 is 0.77 inches at its thinnest. Even if it was say 1 inch thick (or thin, depending on how you want to look at it), that is still really thin. Hell, my Palm Treo phone is pretty close to an inch thick! Both of these notebooks achieve these sizes and weights by using solid state drives. Coming in at 64GB, they’re hardly small. These laptops also boast 12.1-inch transreflective LED backlit displays that are ideal for usage in virtually all types of lighting situations, including direct sunlight.
