OtherInBox aims to sort and summarize your e-mail inbox

OtherInBox logoIf you’re like me, then you awaken every day to an e-mail Inbox filled with at least 25+ new messages, and that’s not even counting the other messages that were already filtered to folders/labels. Those new messages come in all shapes and sizes, and more than a few are from commercial senders, such as banks, retailers, etc. And those messages continue to pour in throughout the day.

If you treat your Inbox like a To Do list, then this can seem overwhelming. Gmail has decided that one way to tackle this is by prioritizing your e-mail. You assist Gmail’s built-in brain by marking e-mails up or down in priority/importance. While this may work for you, you may not wish to spend any incremental time continually training it like a puppy or a child.

Enter OtherInBox. OtherInBox (OIB) assesses all of your e-mail, organizes it based on sender and presents you with a dashboard summary of those messages. It will also summarize and send you a daily digest. The aim here is to get those e-mails out of your way and leave your inbox more slanted to personal messages. …

With this week’s North American debut of the Windows Phone 7 we decided to dive into the Microsoft vs Apple fray and see how Windows Phone 7 is going to stack up with iOS 4. (Full disclosure: Retrevo was selected by Microsoft to be a BizSpark One partner.) Since its 2007 release the iPhone has dominated the smartphone market recently its supremacy has been challenged by the Android OS, and now Microsoft is going to do its best to snatch some of that market-share as well. To have any hope of doing so however, Microsoft has to be able to offer something new or innovative to consumers. In that vein, here are a few things WP7 does that the iPhone does not. …

ION iPROFILE Turntable with Direct-to-iPod Transfer

Review: ION iPROFILE Turntable

ION iPROFILE Turntable with Direct-to-iPod Transfer

After I purchased my first CD player and started listening to CDs in the early eighties, my vinyl records were gradually eased out of play. CDs were the hottest item at the time so naturally I did not bother to replace the turntable stylus when it became worn, and the turntable was relegated to the attic.

I was spoiled by the ease of listening to music, and became too lazy to operate a turntable, which involved cleaning the record, playing one side, turning over the record, etc, etc. and of course, purchasing a new stylus (the cost of which would have set me back a few CDs). Contrary to promises made at the time, many of the older albums were never digitized, so that my old LPs were practically lost.

So of course I jumped at the chance to review the ION iProfile turntable which would allow me to convert my precious vinyl records into a more durable electronic format. I would only need to play my old records one more time, and then be able to play them forever after via iTunes (or other media player), into which, I happily learnt, they are imported automatically during the audio signal transfer process.

Gmail's Priority Inbox

Will Gmail’s Priority Inbox Work?

Google has a new Gmail feature to help those of us suffering from e-mail overload – Priority Inbox.

The idea is relatively simple. The Priority Inbox component watches your e-mail, what you read and reply to, what you delete and other signals and tries to ‘learn’ what you consider important. It then separates your Inbox into 3 sections: Important (at the top naturally), the Starred items, and Everything Else.

So will it work?

Amplitube iRig

Review: AmpliTube iRig for iPhone/iPad – Guitar Amp & Effects Rig

Amplitube iRig

As an amateur guitarist, I’m always trying to emulate my favorite guitar players, and of course, their sound. But without their rack of effects, getting even close to their sound is tough. And once upon a time, effects were very expensive, but as home computers have become more commonplace, effects have found their way (at least partially) into software.

Within the last few years, the iPhone has become one of the hottest gadgets to own. Enter IK Multimedia who have decided to marry the iPhone to a guitar effects rig in the form of the AmpliTube iRig. I got a chance to review this gadget and its associated iPhone app.
