We’re well into the summer season and if you’re almost anywhere in the continental US, then you’ve probably experienced your fair share of humidity, perhaps way too much of it! Home automation to the rescue. Enter the Humidity-Sensing Bathroom Fan. Broan uses their SensAire technology to detect rapid increases in moisture levels at the ceiling, where steam and humidity naturally rise, and automatically turns on to dehumidify your room.

One of our most popular gizmos that we were featured was the Oxygenics Self-Pressurizing Showerhead. Fast-forward 2 years and we have another nice one to show you from Oxygenics. This time, it’s the TriSpa Multi-Function Chrome shower head. This beaut has 3 spray options, has 16 air intake ports that is used to pull air in to mix with the water. This results in an oxygen enriched shower that promotes healthier skin.
Better yet, all Oxygenics shower heads are water conserving, using less than 2.5 gallons of water per minute, which works out to a savings of 30% to 70% over traditional shower heads. The Oxygenics showerheads fit standard showers and are easily diy installed without need for a plumber. If you prefer, you can also get a handheld version of this product.

Since we know that Smarthome is one of our readers’ favorite shopping sites for everything Home Automation and more, here’s a great coupon we thought we’d share with you – it’s $0.99 ground shipping on orders of $99 or more. That’s a pretty good deal, but hurry, because it ends Mon 20 Aug, 2007.
Without looking at the picture, you may think based on the title, that there is some small LED display with the current temperature displayed. But it’s better than that – it’s easy to see the temp displayed in a large font across the face of the moving fan. It’s done using the ‘persistence of vision’ effect that you may have seen in other little gadgets.
The FanSee Digital Temperature Fan is a 6″ oscillating fan that displays the ambient temperature in a high-luminosity red display that is equally visible day or night.

Although this has been featured in a few blogs already, it was simply too good of a concept/product not to repeat here. A slant on the usual cupboard under the stairs are these drawers that are built into the stairs on a staircase – Staircase Drawers! Created by Unicraft Joinery in Australia, these stairs are a pretty damn good idea. I’m not sure how well the drawers would work on the curved part of the staircase.

In time, I imagine that this device will be a lot cheaper and entirely more common in kitchens. Why this and not any of the myriad of others? Because you can get by without the others, whereas this serves a hugely useful purpose – keeping you healthy, by testing the freshness of your meat. The SensorFreshQ takes over 2000 air quality samples near your meat/poultry in less than a minute and tells you whether the meat is ok, ok but eat it soon, or spoiled.
The SensorFreshQ is a handheld device that runs on a couple of batteries and will perform hundreds of tests before you need to replace the “QCards”.

Remember the INSTEON RemoteLinc Wireless Remote Control that we recently featured? Well, it’s a hit. Electronic House, which is both an online and print zine, has awarded the RemoteLinc Product of the Year today. This news hasn’t even made it onto the websites of either EH or INSTEON.
From the Press Release, ” Electronic House magazine editors selected the RemoteLinc as its Product of the Year for its technical innovation, simplicity to use and overall value. ”
BTW, the INSTEON-compatible product community has over 1400 developers and 100 manufacturers ranging from home lighting, security, heating/air conditioning, and appliances, so this is hardly fly-by-night technology. You can pick up a RemoteLinc for only $59.99.
So I’m not sure how much this is really going to significantly reduce the germs that you pick up from the flush handle on a toilet, particularly a reasonably clean home bathroom, but here it is: the FootFlush. A relatively inexpensive gadget that is easy to hook up to your toilet, the FootFlush, comes in 2 shapes, a typical rectangular shape and the more whimsical foot shape. If you have a heightened sense of germs and want to keep those to a minumum, give this a whirl.
