Panasonic TH-42PX60U 42″ Plasma HDTV

Panasonic TH-42PX60U 42

The Geeks first featured an incredible LCD HDTV by Aquos so we figured we should feature a plasma display as well. This Panasonic is priced well and has become a best seller through online retailers… probably because of winning the consumer reports ratings.

If you don’t trust consumer reports, check out the user ratings on Amazon. Out of 35 ratings, 29 were 5 stars and 3 people gave the set 4 stars. That’s pretty impressive.

Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U 52″ 1080p LCD HDTV

Sharp Aquos LC-52D62U 52

Wow…

In the past, LCDs have been known to have issues with viewing angles and since LCD screens are backlit the blacks are not very accurate. These two issues are directly tackled by this Aquos display as the LCD provides a 176 degree viewing angle and a four-wavelength backlight system providing the most accurate black of any flat panel TV.

If you haven’t seen this 52″ LCD HDTV, go find one now… what are you waiting for?

Creative Zen MicroPhoto 8 GB MP3 Player

Creative Zen MicroPhoto 8 GB MP3 Player

This older player continues to receive positive feedback from people that purchase the gizmo and the sales ranking on online stores continues to be above average. The device has even been called an “iPod killer” but sales simply have not backed up that claim. Overall, the device is really a nice looking MP3 player. This is the MP3 player for people that hold a grudge against Apple!

Mostly we picked this MP3 player because we like the 1.5″ OLED screen on the Creative Zen MicroPhoto 8GB MP3 Player… but, it’s still not an iPod.

The *NEW* Wireless Mvix player is finally here

Mvix Wireless MvixUSA has finally released a wireless version of their Mvix player. In addition to adding wireless, they went hi-def and even added USB host ports for additional external hard drives, flash drives and external DVD-ROM drives. You can purchase the Wireless Mvix for $329 at the MvixStore.

Hopefully you can access your media files via wireless as well as moving files to the device. You can also purchase a car power adapter for the device so this could easily be a portable wireless storage video server. I wonder if you could stream video to a PSP from the device…

By the way, check out the review we did on Mvix MV-5000U, which was the precursor to the wireless version.

Samsung YP-X5Z NeXus 50 XM Ready Digital Audio Player with 50-hour Playback

Samsung YP-X5Z NeXus 50 XM Ready Digital Audio Player with 50-hour Playback

Just because the category for today is “Portable Audio Players” we didn’t have to pick all MP3 type players! In fact, with satellite radio becoming more and more popular, this portable Samsung XM ready player with 50-hour playback works quite well in this category. With the 1GB of space, you can record the “Opus and Andy” show and listen to it later or use the space to store MP3s.

Carry the power of a XM satellite recorder in your hands with the Samsung YP-X5Z NeXus. By the way, we hit this deal perfect as there is a rebate on the product though Amazon so your final price is only $76.98!

iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition 8GB

iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition 8GB

My wife and I have decided to upgrade our 4GB 2nd generation mini iPods with a pair of the iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition 8GB iPods. Why? For one thing, the red nano looks sharp but more importantly Apple contributes $10 from every sale to the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Sure we HAD to purchase the (PRODUCT) RED nano directly from Apple and the Black Friday deals did not include this special iPod so we had to pay full price, but it’s worth a worthy cause.

Also, the iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition looks sharp…

Television Series on DVD

Television Series on DVD

Television Series on DVDs is our last pick in the “Video” category. It seems just about every television series is available on DVD allowing you to pop in and watch your favorite TV show on your own schedule. If you you’re a Richard Dean Anderson fan, you can watch “Macgyver” followed by an episode of “Stargate SG-1”. Even the canceled but brilliant TV shows such as “Father of the Pride” and “Dark Angel” are available.

Nothing like getting your old school Jennifer Garner-goodness fix from Alias Seasons 1 or 2 then getting your Jessica Alba-goodness fix as she plays “Max” on “Dark Angel”.

I want my TV DVD (sung like the old “I want my MTV” jingle).

Sling Media Slingbox PRO

Sling Media Slingbox PRO

Sling Media created an innovative product in their original Slingbox, but at the end of September Sling Media came out with a family of Slingboxes. The top end Slingbox is the Pro.

Having the Pro for only a month or so, I am at a loss as to how I lived before the product came along. I like the Pro because it has the ability to connect to HD components as well as having multiple inputs for multiple devices.

If you are unsure which Slingbox is perfect for you, SlingCommunity has the perfect article about which Sling is right for you. In case you don’t know what a Slingbox does, here it is in a nutshell: hook your Slingbox up to your home network, and to your A/V system and then be able to watch the stuff on your TV and DVR (ex: Tivo) from anywhere outside your home that has Internet access on a piece of software that runs on PCs and Macs.

TiVo Series3â„¢ HD Digital Media Recorder

TiVo Series3â„¢ HD Digital Media Recorder

Tivo arguably made one of the largest splashes this year in the DVR market with the release of their Series 3 box. And it was certainly a big splash with their $800 HD-ready (1080i output), cable-ready, 300hr (32 in HD) unit. Billed as the World’s only DVR with THX®-certification, the Series 3 can also manipulate digital photos, Internet radio, and podcasts; you can schedule recordings from the Web; and supports cableCards. One cool feature that is readily visible is the OLED display that stretches across the front of the unit.

Sidekick 3 Smartphone

Sidekick 3 Smartphone

You’re nobody in L.A. if you don’t have a Sidekick, and and not wanting to be left out of the in-crowd, the Geeks had to feature the latest Sidekick (#3), in our smartphone section of the 12 Gizmos of Christmas. Let’s see… it has a 1.3 megapixel camera, MP3 player, e-mail and IM clients, speakerphone, and more in a 7oz package with the stylish flip out QWERTY keypad. There are also quite a few skins that you can pick up to avoid yours getting mixed up with your latte-drinking friends. Get over to T-Mobile and pick yours up today, and try to avoid the paparazzi.
