Review: Krypton iPhone 3G/3GS Case

Krypton Products iPhone 3G/3GS Case The Geeks received some Krypton Products a couple months ago then put the products to real world testing. This review concentrates on the Krypton iPhone 3G/3GS Flex Case.

The iPhone 3G/3GS Krypton Flex Case includes several funky styles: Black Pyramids, Black Groove, Orange Groove and White Spiral. As mentioned, these cases were tested by several reviewers and it was hard for the reviewers to choose the style they wanted. Orange and Black Groove went first followed by Black Pyramids. Personally, I preferred the Black Groove style but would have used any case.

CradlePoint MBR1200

The CradlePoint MBR1200 will make the uber-geek squeal with delight as the 802.11n router includes 3G/4G failover capabilities. In addition to the providing failover capability, the MBR1200 switches automatically to a secondary connection when primary service is interrupted. When restored the device will failback to the primary connection.

If you’re craving higher bandwidth, the device also provides active load balancing between all internet sources. As a geek, I’m salivating!

New iPhone 3G S model and OS update announced. Rolls out middle of Jun 09

Also announced at Apple’s WWDC was the latest update to the iPhone OS to 3.0 which will come out in less than 10 days on Jun 17. Oh, but that’s not as big as the new iPhone 3G S model being released 2 days later.

The iPhone 3G S 16GB will be $199 and the 32GB will be $299, while existing 8GBers will sell for $99. New in the 3G S is a digital compass, video recording, voice control and a better camera.

Engadget has some (painfully) detailed coverage of today’s keynote with screenshots, or you can see the whole presentation on Apple’s site.

Cadillac 3G WiFi Router

Cadillac 3G WiFi Router

3G WiFi Routers have long been offered in high-end Maybachs, but Cadillac has brought it down to a much more affordable level by offering it in their CTS Sport sedans. With a solid 3G connection, you could be looking at a speed of around 400-800kbps, but with a 2G connection you’ll probably get around 200kbps. Your car’s speed may also affect these numbers.

Currently, only 1GB and 5GB plans are available (for $30/month and $60/month respectively) which really isn’t that great, especially with a large majority of phones available with unlimited data plans for a fraction of this cost. There’s also the $500 investment of buying the router, which makes it a bit of a low bang-for-the-buck value.

iPhone 3G and WWDC Announcement Predictions

There’s no doubt that an iPhone update is imminent. But while nearly everyone has agreed on that, nobody knows anything definite about the specifics… except that the new iPhone will be compatible with the Microsoft Exchange email services. There’s a link on the main Apple.com iPhone page where you can apply to be a beta tester.

In regards to the iPhone, here’s what we know today:

  • Apple.com lists the iPhone as “Currently Unavailable.” Stock is so low that you can’t buy it. Usually a good sign that a new model is coming out soon.
  • Apple continues to make iPhone sales deals across the globe. Netherlands, Hong Kong, Singapore, India and Australia were all announced with the last few months.
  • A 3G settings screen was found by hackers in the latest firmware update for the iPhone.
  • The new iPhone will most likely be unveiled during Steve Jobs’ keynote speech at Apple’s WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) on June 9th.
  • AT&T is prohibiting retail-store employees from taking vacations between June 15 and July 12, claiming that they’re expecting a “heavy selling period”. They implemented a similar policy last year for the iPhone launch.
  • AT&T executives have said numerous times that all of their smartphones (the iPhone is one of the) will support 3G networking soon.
  • The Apple Stores have been out of stock of the iPhone for weeks. And people are forming daily lines outside Apple stores that still have a few iPhones in stock. …

HTC Touch Diamond Cell Phone to compete with iPhone

HTC announced the Touch Diamond yesterday in London and they’ve managed to pack even more features into a cell phone that many are already calling an iPhone-killer. At a minimum, it’s definitely a competitor.

The Diamond sports a 2.8″ VGA touch-screen running HTC’s own TouchFlo 3D interface and it promises some newer touch and gesture mechanism over the iPhone. A quadband phone, the Diamond is a smartphone with a slew of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0, GPS, and HSDPA. It also shows off its auto-righting display technology so you can view pages in either landscape or portrait modes. I’m just touching on its many features too.
