Welcome to the fourth annual “12 Gizmos of Christmas” countdown to the most wanted gadgets and gizmos of the 2007 Christmas Season. So far cell phones, laptops and computers have made the list and the Geeks are up the ninth most wished for list which are digital camcorders. First up in the digital camcorder list we have an entry for prosumers from Sony called the HDR-SR7. This is a high definition camcorder that has a 60GB hard drive supporting the AVCHD format and a 6.1MP camera.
As the world goes high definition, more and more consumers want their personal memories to be recorded in high definition as well and this Sony unit can fit the bill. This is great for consumers that don’t want to worry about tapes either as the camcorder has a built-in hard drive and by using the AVCHD format you can stores loads of high definition video on the unit. I have a slightly older version with a 40GB drive and that drive held quite a bit of video I took on a three week trip to China.
Some are worried that the AVCHD format is not supported but that was last Christmas! Since then, most major software makers are including support for the AVCHD format including Apple’s iLife.
