LaCie have announced their new Little Big Disk, featuring Thunderbolt technology. And, no, it has nothing to do with Little Big Planet – this is a storage drive that offers transfer speeds of 10Gb/s!
Developed by Intel,Thunderbolt even trumps USB 3.0’s top-end 5Gb/s speeds.
Little Big Disk is available in 240GB or 500GB SSDs or 1TB HDD depending on your needs and is made of aluminium for the standard, classy, LaCie look. System compatibility is restricted to Mac OS 10.6 as there aren’t many products currently available with Thunderbolt technology. Retro-fitting them into PCI slots is an option, but otherwise we may have to wait for more to be developed. LaCie is currently suggesting other hard drives with such technologies, and also other media devices such as cameras.
Pricing is currently unknown but they should be available this summer.
