You knew it was just a matter of time – an iPod mated with a cell phone. In this case, it’s a Motorola product. Apparently, the phone will work on the Cingular network. Of course, at this point, it’s still vaporware, but we’ll see. It’s certainly in Apple’s best interest to do this as other cell phones are gaining the ability to store and play music and let’s face it – most folks want consolidation of their portable electronics.
Interestingly, Apple announced this on their website over a year ago, and nothing has come of it yet. Really – how hard is to do this? I would think that they could do what they’ve done with the iPod, which is to start with one product and periodically release incrementally better ones. I’m not singling out Apple – I think many other companies do this as well, either intentionally or at least to meet deadlines.
