The fight for content rights heats up as new portable video devices hit the market

The proliferation of handheld portable video players could do for digital video files what the iPod has done for MP3s. While the popularity of iPods has not only increased the popularity of MP3 players but has fueled interest in digital file distribution throughout the house, portable video players may also soon turn the home into a virtual docking station.

“The whole concept of the digital home is to be able to watch your video, your pictures or listen to your music anywhere in the house,” says Dan Schwab, vice president at D&H Distributing, Harrisburg, Pa. “The next iteration is people want to take it on the go with them.”
