Archos 704 80 GB WiFi Portable Digital Media Player

Archos has just gone one up in the PMP game, with the 704 Wifi. The 704 is a wide-screened high-res 800×480 7″ TFT LCD touch screen with WiFi so you can surf the Net wherever you go. Applications include the usual slew of multimedia apps, but also include a Web browser and e-mail apps. The 704 comes in either a 40GB or 80GB version, so you have lots of room to play back MPEG-2, MPEG-4, WMV, protected WMV and VOB. You can do things like adjust the screen size, and even edit video. With an optional accessory, you can turn your 704 into a DVR and record video off of your usual video sources: TV, cable/sat box, DVD, and even off of digital cameras and camcorders.

Wait, there’s more! The 704 can pull photos directly off of USB 2.0 Host cameras, and then you can view them in slideshows with transition effects. Oh so what about that music thing? Yeah, there’s that – MP3, WAV, WMV and protected WMV formats (AAC and AC3 with additional plugins). I’m disappointed that there’s no FLAC or OGG support, but that’s pretty close to complaining given the laundry list of features that the 704 has. The 704 runs for 25 hours on its rechargeable battery and charges while it syncs.
