Take a look at this video to see how cool it is. Next step, holocards.

yourenew.com pays you to recycle your old electronics

| Posted Mar 16th, 2010 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

YouRenew.com logoRecycling your old electronics is really becoming easier, as more services spring up to cash in on the growing industry. Yes, cashing in, because they make money from re-selling the parts and raw materials. But I don’t want to rain on their parade, because it’s a win-win for everyone. You can get some cash for your device and they get to run a profitable business.

Take YouRenew.com – they even pay for the shipping of your old gadget and then pay you depending on what it’s worth. For example, a 1st gen 4GB iPhone will get you $94. Nice. Naturally, the older it is, the faster the price goes down, but hey, you’re recycling and not tossing a bunch of hazardous materials into a landfill, and the price on that is much higher!

Another service that we covered previously is Gazelle.

| Posted Mar 14th, 2010 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

What happens when you string 24 drives together is you end up with a computer that is blazingly fast. Watch the video. It’s entertaining and you’ll be dying to have you very own RAID array that has a throughput somewhere north of 30x what you currently have.

Amazon now has a Green category for electronics

| Posted Mar 13th, 2010 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

Amazon now has a ‘green’ category off of its electronics page. The products listed within have certifications from both EnergySar and EPEAT.

Note that this doesn’t mean that all of the products match up equally – there are different levels of ‘green’. For example, there are only 14 TVs that make the EPEAT silver level.

Wireless Page to TV Magnifier puts your books’ words up on your TV screen

| Posted Mar 11th, 2010 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

wireless magnifierUse one of your home’s largest gadget, your TV, to enhance one of the most low-tech activities we all do: read. The Wireless Page to TV Magnifier is a mouse-sized gizmo that scans your books or magazines and sends the image wirelessly to your TV in real time, magnifying it up to 25x it’s actual size.

The scanner is a 655×488 pixel scanner, and there’s a wireless base that plugs into your television via an RCA video cable. This would be a great gift for a lot of people, who enjoy reading but it’s too much of a strain on their eyes.

Leave the light off – Night Lights for your Toilet

| Posted Feb 22nd, 2010 by Chief Gadgeteer [e-mail, website]

jonny glow toiletWe’re kicking off Monday morning with some toilet humor. No, not that kind. Actually, it’s a set of  gadgets for your bathroom. They’re night light accessories for your toilet, so you don’t need to turn on the light in your bathroom if you need to make a pitstop in the middle of the night.

First up is the Flush Light that replaces the flush handle on your toilet with one that has a red LED light and an on/off button. It shuts off automatically after a while.

The next toilet ‘night light’ is the Jonny Glow which is a self-adhesive fluorescent strip that goes at the top of the toilet bowl’s rim. Only problem I have with this one is a cleaning one, although they claim it’s easy to clean. On the other hand, it doesn’t need batteries or button-pressing.
