There’s a new poker app looking to be the king of the poker games world (at least on the iPhone): World Poker Tour Texas Hold’em. While it’s very similar in ways to existing poker apps already out there, it puts together a total package of features that other apps haven’t quite managed to pull off yet.
If you’re a fan of the World Poker Tour television show, you’ll quickly find yourself right at home in the game, as popular WPT commentator and announcer Mike Sexton has recorded audio clips for the game that make you feel like you’re right there at a WPT final table. For online
poker fans, the game offers a very similar experience in its multi-player mode, as it lets you compete with other players from around the world in tournaments and cash games (although you can’t play for real cash money in the game, just for points and pride).
WPT Texas Hold’em also offers games for solo play as well, where you battle it out against computer opponents with their own betting tendencies and tells. This can be a great choice if you want to get in a few hands of poker but don’t have much time to play, so you can quickly fire up your iPod and get your poker fix.
The gameplay is straightforward and the actual play at the tables is very similar to playing online poker, as far as betting, getting chips, etc. Some nice features are letting you muck your cards by simplyflicking the screen with your finger, as well a virtual wheel that you spin to increase your bet size, when you decide it’s time for a big raise.
