Toshiba Announces New Notebooks and Tablet PC

IRVINE, Calif. (Feb. 7, 2006) – In response to the increasing mobility needs of corporations and individual users, Toshiba’s Digital Products Division, a division of ToshibaAmerica Information Systems, Inc., today announced the Tecra M5 notebook computer. The newest member of Toshiba’s flagship business notebook line, the Tecra M5 Series establishes a new standard for business mobility by addressing the growing needs of the mobile workforce through an optimal balance of performance, reliability, security and longevity.

The Tecra M5 is the flagship of Toshiba’s Tecra product family notebook computers and encompasses company’s exclusive, value-add EasyGuard technology to protect user investment and prolong product life. Toshiba’s EasyGuard is a series of hardware and software enhancements to business-class notebooks and Tablet PCs that help boost mobile security, system integrity, network connectivity and overall ease of use. The Tecra M5 is now available through the company’s Reseller Partners and mail order with prices starting at $1,699.

Targeted at small-to-medium business and public sector users, the newest additions to the award-winning Tecra notebooks offer enhanced functionality, redesigned form factors and affordable pricing in addition to Toshiba’s innovative EasyGuard™ technology . Toshiba offers recommended configurations, but options such as processor, system memory size, hard drive capacity and display technology are customizable to best meet user needs.

Separating the two Tecra A Series notebooks from other budget-minded notebooks is an integrated biometric fingerprint reader with single sign-on functionality. The company’s newest RoHS-compatible notebooks are now available through Toshiba Direct, mail order and the company’s Reseller Partners with pricing starting at $1,149 for the Tecra A6 and a starting price point of $1,199 for the Tecra A7.

The new Tablet PC weighs approximately 4.5 pounds and comes with a six-cell battery forup to five hours of computing time . Toshiba offers an optional six-cell Slice Expansion battery for up five hours of additional computing time .

Toshiba equipped the Portégé M400 with a swappable Ultra SlimBay for a CD-RW/DVD, DVD SuperMulti optical drives or a second hard drive for onboard data backup. Even with the adoption of an optical drive, Toshiba was able to maintain the unit’s sub five-pound weight class.

Toshiba’s Portégé M400 is now available through Toshiba Direct, mail order and the company’s Reseller Partners with prices starting at $1,699 .
