It was almost 2 years ago that Oracle decided to purchase Sun Microsystems. And now in what seems like the final nail in the coffin, they will also be completely killing off the www.sun.com website.
Most of the content has already been transferred over to new Oracle websites, and trying to go to sun.com already redirects you to an Oracle page.
But it’s still pretty sad for those of us who used those little pizza boxes in college or Sun’s ‘big iron’ in workplaces.
What I don’t quite get is why Oracle has decided to practically kill off the Sun name. Very little of the Sun name is affixed to any of the old products. Even Solaris is now called Oracle Solaris. Boy, that sounds weird. Perhaps they think the Oracle brand has a better shine than the Sun one?
