Nuclear Powered Batteries

In a few years, you may see more devices being powered by get this… batteries based on nuclear technology. Using the relatively benign radioisotope tritium, a battery can run for about 12 years (the half-life of tritium). These new batteries are ideal for low-powered, small devices that need to last a long time – think pacemaker. Scary perhaps, but a perfect fit. Already a startup, BetaBatt Inc., has licensed the technology and plans to produce a commercial product in a few years.
