Commodore 64 Relaunched With New PC Guts

'new' Commodore 64 PCCommodore is a brand that refuses to die, and there are enough nostalgic supporters to make a businessman think that it’s still worth something, which is why Barry Altman — who now owns the trademark — has released a desktop computer that looks just like the original Commodore 64 did, except it’s not actually a C64.

The ‘new’ Commodore 64 actually runs a dual core Atom CPU, NVIDIA Ion2 graphics, 2GB RAM (expandable to 4), a DVD R/W drive, and runs Windows.

It costs somewhere between $250 and $900 depending on configuration. While I don’t personally get why you would want a regular (actually underpowered) computer in a C64’s body, it turns out that is so popular that the demand has crashed the website (as of the time of this writing)!

For the same money, you could get a more feature-rich and powerful computer. If I were really nostalgic, wouldn’t I want the whole original deal? But hey, that’s just me…
