One of our readers wrote in to tell us about a cool new piece of software that looks like a video game, but instead it gives you a real-time 3D dynamic representation of your network traffic. It’s called Eve, and while it’s now in an ‘intro’ phase, there are some interesting possibilities for it in the future, including being able to disconnect network connections. So perfect for the network admin/systems admin. Definitely take a look at the short videos on the Eve site for an immediate understanding of what Eve does.
This is reminiscent of a hack that some folks put together back in at least ’95/’96 to allow you to use Doom to kill UNIX processes. I loved that thing – made my sys admin job so much more enjoyable!
