Smarthome offers a 2.4GHz Solar Color PIR Camera & Receiver for under $300. The camera charges up and is powered via solar energy so no electrical cables need to be run. The camera detections motion up to 26 feet away and then transmits video AND audio wirelessly to the receiver up to 250 feet.
This is a dramatic step forward for truely wireless cameras as this is the first and only truely wireless camera setup we have seen. The only issue is that a minimum of 3 Lux lighting is required to capture images.
When the camera’s PIR motion sensor detects motion, images and voices are transmitted. Upon receiving these signals, the receiver beeps twice, and the LED flashes for one minute, so you’ll know when to record or to view on your TV or monitor. The actual transmission time is adjustable for 10, 20, 30 or 40 seconds, but the camera will continue to transmit as long as the PIR sensor is triggered.
The 2.4GHz Solar Color PIR Camera’s solar panel uses the sun’s rays to run and maintain a charge to the camera battery during daylight hours. A negligible amount of energy is released by the long-life rechargeable battery to operate the camera at night. While the camera will work after sunset, it requires a minimum light of 3 Lux to capture images.
Mount the camera in any convenient location that gets ample direct sunlight. You can adjust the camera’s view angle in any direction, and the PIR motion sensor will sense movement up to 26 feet away. Connect a time-lapse VCR (sold separately) for constant image capturing, ideal for when you’re away from home.
