Eurogamer reports that Microsoft fixed a major Kinect implementation issue by allowing Kinect to recognize players who are seated. The method Microsoft used to create skeletal models in the software set the base node at the bottom of the spine. When people were seated with knees in front of their pelvis, Kinect got confused. Microsoft engineers modified the base node from the bottom of the spine to the back of the neck.
Previously, developers had to specifically code for lazy (sitting) gamers but this functionality is now built into the system. Unfortunately these changes will miss most of the peripheral’s launch line-up.

As rumored, Rock Band 3 will feature a MIDI keyboard that you can use outside of the game as well. RB3 will also have some re-imagined guitars designed to work with the game’s “Pro” mode which is an intermediate gameplay mode that is supposed to be somewhere between the game’s original accessories and actual musical instruments.
Rock Band 3 is slated for release by the end of this year (2010).

Gamers rejoice. Well, ok, perhaps in a year or 2, as Intel has a team working on developing a game engine that produces graphics that render animated faces and people/creatures that more closely resemble what we’ve seen in the latest blockbuster movies. Think Avatar, Lord of the Rings, etc.
The big thing at CES this year was 3D, and Gunnar Optiks unveiled a line of stylish 3D glasses. We previously reviewed Gunnar Optiks glasses from last year’s CES, and it seems the company is only getting bigger. Although the 3D glasses aren’t available yet, Gunnar also showed off its MLG branded glasses.
