Neuros Control Tablet 1002

Did you see the word ‘tablet’ and switch off because apart from the myriad of Android tablets out and upcoming, there’s of course also the Apple iPad. But wait, this one has a few twists – this Neuros Control Tablet 1002 comes with a remote control app for the Neuros LINK installed as well as a Boxee remote control.

Neuros LINK – View online Internet video on your TV

Neuros has a new box hitting the general market soon – the Neuros LINK, which lets you get all of that video content that’s sitting on the Internet onto your TV. That means content from sites like YouTube, hulu, NBC, CNN and much more can be streamed over to your TV in HD.

The LINK comes with a ‘keymote’ (looks a bit like the old WebTV keyboards) that you can use to search for content. It even plays music, downloaded movies and displays photos. It is WiFi enabled so you can situate it near your TV without having your network and/or computer near by, but comes with Gigabit Ethernet if you’ve got that accessible, as well as 6 USB ports, S/PDIF audio output, and HDMI out.

LINK will tie in with Neuros’ upcoming Neuros.TV site which will allow you to better organize all of the content you’re interested in from the various sites. LINK is currently available directly from Neuros for $299.

New Bounty to Synchronize TiVo and the Neuros OSD

Neuros OSD Our friends at DVR Upgrade have teamed up with our friends at Neuros Technology to create a couple bounties worth $3500 for the development of software for the Neuros OSD (Open Source Device). The winner of the bounty will have developed an application that allows a OSD user to record TV to both their TiVo device and a portable device such as a laptop, iPod or iPhone in MPEG-4 format which is perfect for the person on-the-go that wants to bring their favorite TV shows with them.

From DVR Upgrade:

People love TiVo for its robust program guide and related features, and people love the OSD for the portability of its recordings. So, we’ve come up with a bounty for a project that combines the best of both devices. Namely for the OSD to piggyback on the TiVo’s recording schedule and make portable MPEG-4 recordings of those shows that you choose. It’s essentially like having TiVo simultaneously record onto a portable device at the same time that its recording to its hard drive. With no file transfer or conversion, you could have all your favorite shows automatically on your laptop, iPod, iPhone, Blackberry or whatever portable device you prefer. Ultimately, this functionality would be perfect for commuters, road-warriors or anyone that spends their days on the go.

Open Source Community Enables YouTube Browsing on Neuros OSD

Our friends over at Neuros Technologies have announced a beta version of a YouTube browser for their award-winning Neuros OSD product. With this release, the device can now be used to easily browse and play the entire YouTube video collection on any TV, both standard and high definition. Functionality already in this release includes keyword searching and browsing by category and rating. Future releases will bring user interface improvements and added functionality such as sharing, subscriptions, and much more.

The real story is that this advancement has been made possible by Neuros’ worldwide community of open source developers. Neuros’ embraces the open source community and closely works with developers to quickly incorporate these open source contributions in official releases.

It sounds like Neuros Technology has a lot more up their sleeves for future releases:

Though this release is perhaps its most exciting to date, “it’s just the beginning”, said Born. “We’ve got a number of user interface enhancements and fixes already under way that are making the OSD an increasing pleasure to use, and we also look forward to bringing an array of exciting connectivity tools to the Neuros OSD in the coming weeks and months.”
